Sorry, I don't know what onion ring in bokeh means. Can you explain? The last shot above is a good example of the bokeh I have seen to date.
Hi, Bob,
Sorry, I don't have sample on hand as work now. but here is a example I am talking about form quick internet searching.
Basically, the bokeh highlight of point light source looks like a cross section of Onion
My ver1 has it. You sample looks good but the size is small, so I want to confirm it.

Henrik, a mighty generous offer! But you got rid of your NEX-M adapter didnt you? I have yet to own one, although I think I'll get the CV15 shortly. Possibly a 35/1.2 too but then there's a some ZE thought for the 5D2 breaking into the plans as well..., the other day I "ebay-won" a CY 28-85 (mainly for the FF) so I think I have too many lenses incoming... heck, let's go for a photowalk anyway, show me what you can do with that quirky GXR ;-)
Wow those prices are crazy. Hell I have a copy of both the EF and AIS mount and that one on ebay went for more than the price I paid for both combined.
I hear ya. I didn't think I would ever pay 2K for any lens - ever. :-/ Oh well I saw how that went. I wonder if whoever bid the $3.3k for that lens actually paid up or took a minus point?
I had a bit of a shock today. I took my 125 APO Lanthar outside to shoot some flower macros and a helicopter flew over so I thought what the heck and snapped a shot. Another flew by a little later and a grabbed two of it too. The EVF views of them were very impressive but what was shocking were the RAW images on screen at 100, 200 and even 400%. Seeing those from this lens is the first time I ever wished my camera had more pixels!
Usually something like this is what I get from a GOOD lens as seen at about a 50% reduction after doing some PP:
150% Crop wide open f/2.5
But this is 150% with no PP at all. And that's with the lens wide open! Here's a few wide open at 100% - also very impressive:
100% Crop wide open f/2.5 - slightly OOF
100% Crop wide open f/2.5
It's pretty incredible! I just kept zooming in and out of RAW images with the mouse wheel repeatedly mumbling: "WTF, No way! My camera is NOT this good... Is it?... WTF?"
Notice the bottom left corner.
WTF, No way! My camera is NOT this good... Is it?... WTF?
200% PS Zoom, Wide Open f/2.5 - Slightly OOF.
I nailed the focus for the bird tho!
Sure, you 24mp FFers are probably used to it but I've never seen like that before from the now ancient GH1. Oh crap... I'm going to end up keeping this lens - I can tell!

I'm considering getting the CV 20mm and 40mm SL-II lenses for my EOS bodies.
I have the 40 in F mount and I returned the 20 after testing it.
The 40 is great, but If you read the "Most disappointing lens" thread, you will see that several of us picked the CV 20 as our most disappointing lens purchase. I suggest you read through the comments in that thread before buying a CV 20.
To summarize my comments, the optical quality of the CV 20 is not up to the standards of the other lenses in the CV SLI and SL II series. When tested against my Nikon 16-85 zoom lens, the Nikon zoom significantly outperformed the CCV 20 at F 5.6 and F8 (the two apertures where I am most likely to use it) so I sent it back.
Nope, the very reason that the lens exists in its small format is the Leica M bayonet and the short register distance. Lenses for F mount must clear the mirror and hence they have to be more towards the telecentric regime, which means huge and heavy.
