Right now the current VR II 200-400 Nikon seems to be todays bargain at $6,999 plus $500 for their 1.4c TC. The zoom has gone up just $200 at B&H in last year while I watch and wonder and continue wait for Canon\'s official msrp.
I missed out when prior version 200-400 VR I Nikon routinely sold new for under $4,000 in 2009, way back when I bought my 1st Nikon camera, D700.
Seemed at lot to pay for a 200-400mm f4 VR I three years ago, now not so much. A true bargain, which would still have two years left of Nikon USA warranty too.
