I guess I will wait for the issue to be resolved since as I plan to get a NEX 7. The 17-40 and 15 FE are the two EF lenses I like to use on the NEX, was looking forward to aperture control instead of the fixed setting via 5D MKII of F8. I am glad of my decision long ago to stay with Zeiss ZF/ZF.2 instead of switching to ZE.
"Unfortunately the Canon 300mm f/4 lens did not work properly with the NEX Canon EF Smart Adapter." So they did not only fail to reverse engineer the Sony E-protocol properly, but also the Canon EF-protocol.
I couldn't afford 400$ anyway, but if i did i would wait some more time till they have fixed that as well.
We have already identified and fixed the compatibility issue with some Canon lenses (e.g. 300/4).
The problem had nothing to do with the Canon EF-protocol proper, but a program bug in the Smart Adapter in the power initialization sequence. We've already had a resolution.
No matter how we say it, it is our mistake for having introduced this bug and shipped it. We have no excuse. Please accept our apology. Affected customers may return the defective product back to us for firmware update and we will reimburse you for return shipping.
If you have not received your shipment yet, please reject it and return to sender. Thank you!
I am really impressed by Conurus' and Metabones' performance in this matter. Quick reaction, adequate remedy, frank excuses. It actually has improved my perception of their product, despite the bug.

+1. It's a quality mark to show presence and give feedback at this forum with its quite a unique audience.

Canon 135L on NEX 5N (stopped down by using a Canon camera) - disturbingly different yet similar result to what I'd get on 5D II:
Great portrait Ataboy!
I've also fitted my 135 f2 L onto a Pana G3 (now sold) and onto my NEX5N. Where there's a will there's a way! I find $400 an excessive price to pay for this Conurus adapter, even though I have 3 Ls and a 50/1.4. However Bo-Ming demonstrates exemplary customer service in his firmware bug announcement and fix.
IMHO there's nothing too bad about using a cheap EF-E mount adapter and planning ahead re chosen aperture, such as you have done. Having said this, I now lean towards using my Contax 28-85 and 50/1.7 in preference to EF glass.
Sent my adapter back a few days ago for the firmware update and just received this message,
"We just received the adapter returned and will update and send you back ASAP." Good news!
