p.2 #1 · Conurus' EF-E adapter is ready to order

It makes sense if you want a small backup body that can still out perform almost all APS-C bodies right now.

Or if you're shooting with a zoom but still want an easy to reach compact prime in your bag.

The way I shot in Iceland was 21mm F2.8 zeiss mounted on my FF camera along with a companion 5N with the 85mm F1.4 Zeiss ZA or 45mm Contax G so I can get telephoto shots without having to change lenses on my DSLR.

I'm just thinking out loud here, since I'm only using rangefinder primes on NEX, but maybe some would like an EVF based camera for manual focus with L primes, rather than using a Rebel's AF?

It boils down to what EF lenses you have and how you use them. There is a vast number of different EF lenses, big and small, short and long, MF and AF, macro and Tilt Shift and whatnot.

Suddenly, lenses like this become an interesting, albeit expensive, option:

Well, it would make the best option for landscape and architecture for the NEX - total cost around 2300 EUR.

I don't see the point. There are very few Canon lenses which I would prefer over Contax, Zeiss, Nikon or other lenses. In fact, I am not sure if there are any? The only candidate would be the 17 TS-E, but the crop factor of the NEX kills that idea. Colour me puzzled.

For Alt Users, this would be great for adapting ZE lenses if you would like auto aperture.

No, it gives you a 25 T/S for the NEX system. Any idea where to get another one ?

Couldn't you just use a normal Canon NEX adapter for $20?

Carsten, it is EF lenses you don't see the point in. Why bother with an opinion on the adapter then?

Not if you want aperture control.

The 24 PC-E for my D3 is wider and gives better image quality. I am still not convinced that getting an APS-C camera full-time is worth it at all. I am looking for a special portable camera to add to my D3, not replace.

That's true enough. I suppose it could be used with some nice Contax lenses, although I would hate to have the 100/2 become a 150mm, or the 35/1.4 become a 52.5mm lens, so I am not sure which lens makes this interesting. ZE makes no sense when I have ZF.2 lenses on my D3.

There's really no reason to attempt AF with SLR lenses on a CDAF system. Even Sony's first official adapter for a-mount lenses, the LA-EA1, had painfully slow AF with a-mount lenses. We're talking a few seconds to lock focus, and that's why Sony managed the LA-EA2, with the mirror and PDAF module inside of it.

Considering that I've paid $180+ for a couple of different types of M to NEX adapters, I'd say $399 is quite reasonable.

Howsabout hacking the LA-EA2 adapter and replacing the A mount on front end with EF mount (and figuring out the protocol of course). That'd be radical!

Me, I'm yet undecided on this. I have both Canon lenses and a NEX body in da house but I'm not 100% sureI really need to marry the two. Might be nice to have for "just in case" but then again... $400 (add S&H to this) is kinda steep for something you may never really need. If only it had AF I might have been less obnoxius...

However I'm seeing a clear benefit for the users of TS-E or ZE lenses. Too bad (?) I have neither.

Just ordered this can't wait to be able use 50 mm F1.4, 24 mm F1.4 , 35mm F2 and not the least 400 mm F5.6. Won't use these all of time but just to have the ability when needed is great. Now I don't have to buy the $175 adapter with built-in diaphragm which makes the Metabones adapter look a lot cheaper.

Personally, I can see myself using small short tele lenses like the 85 1.8 once in a while. I will keep that for the 5DII and AF use in any case, and I don't intend to buy short tele lenses for use solely on the NEX.

EF Macro lenses would also be nice to use with the NEX.

This opens up huge range of possibilities for E-mount Sony APS-C HD Video(Camcorder) users. Perhaps time to upgrade my camcorder.

Conurus, could you please do the same for MFT mount? Please!!!!

I guess I don't much get the point. If you're using EF lenses, which are quite large compared to mirrorless system lenses, why not just get a small EOS body, like a T3i or something. Heck, even a T3 is only $469, with a T2i coming in at $509 new.

You'd get full AF, much better handling, the same sensor size, etc. The advantage to mirrorless comes because the whole system is smaller, not just the body. If you're using huge lenses on the body, why not have a little larger body that works natively, for the same price?

It's not a mainstream solution, for sure. But, for me, it's great. I have a 5dII as my regular camera. I also have a NEX which I bought as my lightweight, toss it in my backpack and always have it with me camera. I now have the following advantages:

- The NEX weighs next to nothing and without a lens on it, it's ridiculously easy to slip into my regular camera bag with my 5dII. With EF adapter, I now have a high quality 1.5x teleconverter for all my EF lenses. I also have a backup camera body.

- When I just want to toss my NEX into a backpack and go somewhere, I can now also take any of my EF lenses if I want. Just slip it into a lens pouch with and toss it and the adpater in the backpack.

- I can now use my TSE lenses on my NEX. Most notably the 24TSEII which is simply the best lens I have ever owned. This gives me the option to use my 24TSEII as either a 24mm on the 5dii or a 36mm on the NEX.

- I can go hiking and travelling now with only the NEX, a couple of small (non-Canon) primes, the 24TSEII, and a light travel tripod and feel fully covered. I have the primes to cover quick shots, and I have the TSE to set up for when I need it, and also have the advantage of being able to flat stitch images if I need to go wide.

- With the NEX and flat stitching I can now get big, detailed, high quality image files. From stictching with my 5dii I feel like I can come impressively close in resolution to what I used to get from 4x5 film without the bulk of carrying a large format camera and film holders. The NEX may not be quite as good as the 5dII, but it will be close and at a fraction of the weight. (And with flat stitiching there is no need to carry a pano head.)

I have paid more than that only for image stabilisation in just one lens.
