The programming is kind of technical so there is a bit of a learning curve but it's not too difficult to get a drop collision. There's a working initial setup in the manual for the control unit. There are many parameters that affect what happens and what the result will look like so you can spend hours tweaking everything. Then there's lighting, additives in the water or the use of other fluids, food coloring etc, so the permutations are endless. Also, even when you get the collisions very few of them look great.
Thanks, I myself think lighting and colors are what make the pictures, the collisions themselves aren't very special compared to all the other pictures out there.
I've now programmed an extra step in the StopShot so that it also triggers the camera; it opens the shutter, delays, triggers the flashes and then closes the shutter. You still need to take the pictures in a dark room, but it's a bit more convenient to take the picture with a single button press.
