Time to move on from XP. Win 7 is much better and I was on XP for 10 years. Also you won't be getting updates and support for XP for much longer.
Same here. I was forced to work with Vista for a few years, and while it was bad in the first couple of months, it was stable after that and I got over my hate for it, even though I never loved it.
W7 I liked more than XP, pretty much from the start, while I was very fond of XP. Easiest version to do a fresh install with so far. Only need to install a video driver; Windows takes care of the rest.

They list one click ca correction as a new feature. I'd like to know how this differs from lens profiling ca, and how well it works.

The one click CA correction works quite well IMHO, the NR brush deosn´t do much and the Moiré brush does nothing. Am i the only one with this?
The noise reduction works for me. It's of course identical to the NR in ACR - only now paintable. Moire is new so that will be in ACR soon as well I suppose. It also works but I needed to shoot something with moire.
Overall I think LR has become completely unusable for anything but the slightest of adjustments and the sorting/display of the files. I'm on an 8-core 2.66 and LR4 crawls... Even the early versions of Aperture weren't this slow. It'll be a complete shame if this doesn't improve by release. Looks like for now I'll be staying with ACR/PS/Bridge which contain the identical code segments and behavior as LR3.x with different metaphor and guise.
The Book Videos looked very nice! That kinda makes me wanna layout and print up a book or two. I wonder if it's as slow as the Develop module? I think I'll have a look...
Update... the Windows version is about 5 to 8 times faster. Not sure why that is. Careful though, two BSODs in 20min. of editing. I guess this really is a Beta. hehe

I'm running XP 64 and my business partner runs Vista 64, I'd disagree hugely with that statement.
XP64 has the biggest set of driver issues of any version of Windows since ME due to extremely limited support (and a buggy implementation of the Vista/7 driver model). Partial support for Vista 64 drivers is the only way XP64 became usable with most hardware.
Vista on supported hardware and running Vista/7 drivers (rather than XP/Vista drivers which are generally unstable) is damned stable and it's faster than XP on anything with at least 2GB of RAM. My experience with Vista across multiple systems is it was a significant improvement over XP crippled by a launch nearly as bad as XP's(most people forget that XP was almost unusable until SP1 and wasn't stable until SP2. Vista was stable at SP1 and usable at release)

Bi, no BSOD for me (touch wood ) but this beta version really clogs up my resources and processing up to 85%, fan spinning so loud I could hear it with my music on. Already uninstalled last night after 15 minutes of playing but I do like the NR and WB addition on adjustment brush
XP was stable enough for me even before SP1... No Windows version caused as much CONSTANT filesystem activity as Vista though. I went nuts from the constant hdd crunching, even after turning indexing and prefetching off. Instantly cured when I installed W7.
Looks like a very nice update. My first impressions just from the videos:
Development: good stuff
Soft proofing: nice to have
Video: don't care much and the process seems very very stupid where you first have to create a preset
Mapping: awesome!
Books... not my cup of tea

For the BSOD try playing a slideshow of 1000 RAW images.
85%, Yup, it did that to me on Mac too. All 8 cores hitting 80% ~ 98%. At first I thought "Awesome, it's multi-core finally!" and then I was like, "but wait it's 3 or 4 times slower than the previous version" - not "Winning". That's in 10.6.8
On Windows7 (32), a single core laptop with a 3.2Ghz pentium, the CPU meter didn't seem to surpass 65% and on top of that editing was about the same speed or a little faster than on the Mac.
I agree about the new brushable tools! I can't wait for those to become available in ACR where I'll actually use them. I wonder if they already are and the DL is just waiting for me.... <runs off to look>
I can't work out how to use the book layout section. There seems to be no way of changing the size or the positioning of the images, at least on the dustcover layout options.
While struggling with it it all jammed up and hung. Not a good start!
But... there are zero differences to the GUI and menu options. Just some bug fixes and some new cameras. Here's the bug-fix list:
These items have been FIXED in Camera Raw 6.6: New camera profiles for Nikon D3, D3000, D3000s, and D700 to address issues with highlight posterization
JPG file appears to be unsupported or damaged
ACR 6.5 clicking ―Choose target folder button makes APD frozen (Mac only)
Lightroom crashes when saving keyword to file
Fuji S200 rendering highlights with green cast
Crash using local adjustment brush with automask on with attached image
Scrolling too fast when using the trackpad
Snapshops don’t reset when in local corrections only with global corrections
Fixed issue red eye reduction for images converted to B & W.
Fixed issue with overcorrection of vignette.
Fixed issue with color noise reduction at extreme color temperatures.
Fixed issue with noise reduction when using local exposure adjustment.

I'm playing around with it now. It seems to crash whenever I load my nex3 files, but the engine is playing very nicely with my 5D. I have an action set in photoshop that uses both a shadow/highlights layer and a midtone contrast layer to put more "shoulder" into my photos, but the 2012 seems to be doing something similar in my eye.
seems to work just fine on my nex-3 files, i'm on a mac though...
I have a desktop still running Vista 64 ok and a laptop with Windows 7.
I want to upgrade my desktop to 7 but I need Vista 64 for my Z3100 printer drivers to work as the windows 7 versions don't seem to work with my Z3100. Might have to go the old dual boot way.
