Let me state this....

The video functionality on the D4 will blow people's minds.

If this is of course what you're into. There are features there no one else is doing.

No one ever cried to Kodak "please make an ISO 12,800 Ektachrome".

Just because you didn't hear them doesn't mean they did ask. You get to hear (and voice) a lot more opinions now that the internet is here. Had it been around in it's present form 30 years ago I'm sure a lot of people would have been crying for more.

Also, 30 years ago people would have been saying that you can't defy the laws of physics and ISO12,800 film isn't possible without more noise etc etc, just like they are doing now but with sensors (and with film that's actually true even today - which is another reason why digital is really taking over).

If there had been clean ISO 12,800 film then photography would have been completely different 30 years ago. The fact is that much of what you can shoot at low light weddings and events today was simply not possible 30 years ago. I'd rather be where we are now than where we were 30 years ago.

I too have a complete Canon system as well as Nikon. I have carefully read the "weasle" specs of the Canon 1Dx. The hi Iso is only "significantly" improved in RAW (and so still behind a D3s) and 12fps becomes 10 fps with hi Iso (3200+) etc. The difference between 16 and 18Mp is not importsnt to me since 12Mp was always fine for my 24x32" prints of people

The upshot is that Nikon, apparently, will deliver (on schedule) a much better low light camera (eariler at a definite price) with approx 1 1/2 stops better hi ISO and still superior AF. So will the 1Dx be a superb camera more than capable for most any condition-certainly. However, the 1Dx will have a time to compete with the D3s and the D4 will be better-more's the pity.

Wow, these images taken by the D4 at 6400 are stellar sharp and clear. There's no competition against the D700

Only the first one says it is ISO 6.400. All others where shot at ISO 100 the exif say.

The bit I like the sound of from a pure coolness POV is this (from the CPR article)

Its real party trick, though, is a built-in web browser-based remote camera control interface that doesn't require you to download or install a specialized app. Essentially, you can log into your camera (with a username and password) using your laptop, tablet or smartphone and its standard web browser, at which point you're presented with a camera control panel with live view feed. You can adjust a wide range of parameters - exposure mode, shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation, ISO, white balance and so on, and initiate remote shutter release or video recording.

The B&H info says "AF-S & AF-I NIKKOR Lens Compatible" Does that mean it will ONLY work with lenses that have a built in motor? Ooooh that would be Bad...

While looks aren't important, I like the way it looks. More buttons are fine, dont mind them either.

New battery, new card, not so much

Nikon says 1 stop better ISO performance than the D3s so:

I think you have these reversed as ISO 6400 on a D4 would equal ISO 3200 on a D3s noise wise.

Wonder if that audio input is XLR or are we still stuck with the miniplug?

No room for an XLR on there..... so it's going to be a miniplug for sure.

This is a giant leap forward in the video arena and a small skip in the photo arena.

From a photo point of view this is more like a D3 to D3S jump. Some good added features but not like a D2 to a D3X

has anyone figured out where it is made?

the Canon's way better looking...the Nikon is clunky,to many buttons,oh I forgot the buttons make it MORE Professional.

I've never heard a Nikon shooter complain about having "too many buttons"....lol.....
we like it!!! because we can get to all the important features with the press of a single button....

some people like having to turn a wheel, up up, down down, select, start, A B, A B......go 3 steps down, press enter.....to get to some feature they might need
