Not necessarily - the materials and labour cost for the xpro1 should be similar to that of the similarly priced x100. Adding in some low cost but highly effective improvements to firmware and technology that developed since the x100 was released and you have a camera that is in the realm of "great" imo.

Don't forget they are only APS-c lenses, they only need to cover a smaller image circle. Those lenses must be easier to design - therefore the price has to be considered quite adequate. I personally would not pay 1k for a small sensor lens.

That's why I'm thinking Pentax DA Limited (for crop cameras too).
Those lenses are in a similar price range, although a bit more expensive than Fuji I guess,
some are very good, some are very, very good, but they are not
"exceptional", "unique", "amazing".

Agree. The Sony ZA 24 1.8 at 1K is only $200 cheaper than the FF ZA 24/2. That seems off to me.
Define "small sensor" ask someone who owns a Toyo 4x5 field camera

Oh - didn't know they were crop.
Anyway, so this will only become a "very good" system maybe. As you can see above, people were already complaining about the rumoured higher price - people want cheaper. "Exceptional, amazing and unique" quality would have a premium price. Make it 1000 each lens, and 2000 the body, and you may have an exceptional system, that noone will buy.

Unless it had the red dot, in which case it would be a bargain.
I think price-wise if it is $1300 body-only then it will be a step up from the X100. If it is $1300 with a lens that costs $500 by itself, I can't see how they could have made many improvements outside of the firmware and faster processor. I am think of the AF in particular, that stuff costs R&D dollars that they will want to get back.

It's an entirely new sensor, and one with some interesting tech. Clearly, improvements outside of the firmware and processor have been made.

Well, it rather seems to be a last generation Sony 16MP cmos base with Fujis own (new developed) CFA. Sony's latest generation has 24MP, the 16MP one is 2y old probably and has already sold many times to Pentax and Nikon (D5100 and D7000).
The cost of Sony's APS-c sensors was not too high in the past, even years ago it was estimated around 50 bucks only.
Not a fortune, opposed to FF sensors.
About Film simulation, I wonder if its doing something at the RAW level? Fuji seem to be making a big stink about it. All I know is that I really like the Sensia look when I mess around with Nik Color Efex Pro but I'm not sure if its indicative of the look you get from actual sensia film.
