p.1 #1 · OnOneSoftware Perfect Photo Suite - No main window, no loupe

Just bought this software for Windows 7, 64 bit. First of all, it couldn't open several PSD files created with CS5. Secondly, it shows a blank main view and navigator/loupe.

What am I doing wrong or is it just buggy?

What version are you running? Mine was working fine but I just updated to 6.02 (also under 64-bit Win 7) and now I also get a blank main screen and blank Navigator/Loupe. I get the same thing running it standalone or as a plug-in to Lightroom. I think it must be a bug in the new version.

i'm running 6.0.2 which is what the download link was when I purchased. The interesting thing is that the first thing they told me was to download the newest version and get back to them. No response when I told them I was already using the newest version.

I have the entire suite running in both CS5 and Light Room as plug-ins without any difficulty. I have the most recent upgrade, and am running Win 7 64 bit. I never run it standalone, and I don't think it can actually open a PSD itself when running as a standalone unless the PSD is saved with "maximum compatability." Try a jpeg or a tiff or a raw file to see if that is the problem.

it happens for me in the standalone or plug-in and with a tiff, jpg or raw. File format is not the issue.

As an aside, it is unable to render photoshop blending modes properly. It'll handle simple layers and masks but nothing complex.

I wanted to do the trial - but during the install it does not see my applications, so I gave up.

Wow...Just tried it on my hp notebook running windows 7. On that computer, the plug-in doesn't work at all but the standalone app does.

Surprised that nobody is talking about this in more detail...

for people who do not see any image and just see black in the window - try to check which brand and model video card you have , go to the manufacturers site and download the latest version of the driver . the latest driver will usually fix this problem .

i already did that. no change. it's just a buggy program. I've tried it on 2 computers running different video cards under win64 and cs5 64. I'm probably going to request a refund.

I completely uninstalled Version 6.02 and then re-installed Version 6.0. This fixed the problem and everything now works as it should (and as it did before I installed the Version 6.02 upgrade). You can download the Version 6.0 version from this link:

The OnOne software really is pretty good (when it works as it is supposed to).

Good Luck!

I'm not sure what was supposedly "fixed" (the email I got from OnOne announcing the 6.02 update only said "We've released a new update to the Suite, version 6.0.2, and it is available for download now. This is a free update for Suite 6 owners and provides many performance enhancements and other improvements.") but I know that I started seeing the same thing you see (no image in the main window and nothing in the navigator/loupe) right after I applied the V6.02 update.

OnOne's offices are closed today, but I will report this problem tomorrow. in the meantime, don't apply the V6.02 update.

I updated drivers on my notebook and desktop with no change.
Unfortunately, when I purchased i received 6.02. I assume I can uninstall and install the 6.0 instead.

An interesting nuance on running 6.0.2 as a plug-in from photoshop. You need to duplicate the background. It won't run on an image that only has a background. Additinoally, once it fails to run (if you forget to duplicate the background) you have to terminate photoshop and re-run in order to get it to work.

Grrr...It just became a runaway process (taking 99% of CPU) when trying to close it as a plug-in from photoshop. I went to uninstall it but it doesn't show up in the control panel add/remove programs. How did you uninstall?

Mine does show up in the "Programs and Features" control panel in Windows 7 as "Perfect Photo Suite 6". I was able to uninstall it from there.

Just downgraded to 6.0.1 on my laptop but it's even worse. It now will not open at all in plugin mode. What a piece of !@#$@#. Can you say "Lack of testing?..."

Sorry to hear you're still having problems.

I updated my video driver and then re-installed the V6.02 update. Now I do get the image up in all the windows and it seems to work okay as a plug-in from either LightRoom or Photoshop. But if I try to use it in stand-alone mode it really screws up the colors when it opens a file. The opened files come out WAY too red. This happens when opening RAW files (Canon CR2 or Sony ARW files) as well as when opening JPG files. I don't think its a monitor profile issue because if I open a file in OnOne and then save it as a PSD file without making any changes, the PSD file's colors are messed up when subsequently opened in CS4 or Lightroom. It looks like OnOne is applying some kind of a color correction when it opens the file in stand-alone mode. I've tried changing OnOne's working color space but that has no affect.

Lack of testing for sure!!

It's unfortunate, because I really like some of the Perfect Suite's functions and capabilities, but the ongoing bugs are just too frustrating.

I'm going to contact OnOne tech support tomorrow, and hopefully there is a simple fix.

update, On my notebook, I uninstalled 6.0.1 which didn't work at all. I then re-installed 6.0.2 and it seems I can now run it from photoshop as a plug-in or from the standalone app. sheesh...
