You mean like selling an item they make an offer and you accept but they back out the deal?

I get that all the time on Craigslist.

Lol, I've had idiots telling me they "will take it" and send payment "shortly". And 1 day later, still nothing in my Paypal!

I'll admit it's frustrating when it happens. I give 'em 2 hrs (to show me the money) then it's on to the next in line. Works for me.
Used to take it personally, then realized it's business...and their loss.

Me too I give them a small window to show up or pay up otherwise goes to the next buyer, this somehow is not working for me.
When I get a lower offer I give them a deadline to pay or the deal is off seems to work.

I agree totally with Will! I also ask them to include a phone number so we can talk. No phone number, no communication in given time, I move on. If there is a communicated extenuating circumstance to the time limit and I feel it is genuine, the time limit is flexable. It has happened allot here on FM recently.
Lost a few sales due to this type of inconsideration.

Do you tell them upfront or do you just wait the 2 hours and then move on.

+1 to Will and Dan

I think it's entirely fair to say up front that you have a time window within which you expect to be paid, assuming that you have offered a payment option that permits them to comply with your timeframe.

Well, yeah they know upfront when I send my PP addy. I'll wait for a guy to get off work etc.
if he's well established...never a problem in 400+ transactions here.

Yep, that's the deal right there. I guess I'm old school. You make a man an offer, he accepts, you send the money.

Yes, but you're MUCH better off not dealing with a person like that so it's BETTER for you that they flake-out BEFORE you send them any merchandise. Last thing you'll want is someone wanting their money back after a sale because they 'changed their mind'.

Well, trenchmonkey, I wished you had let me know your 2 hr window policy yesterday when I was communicating of buying your pelican case. Just got tied up with something at work before I could get back to you (about 30 mins apart). Next thing I know, you sold it to someone without letting me know. Being an established member did not mean much here. I guess I should not take it personally as business is business.

^ dude, you're playing the 'hurt feelings card' in public

Da facts:
You never said you'd take it.
You offered me less.
In between your 2nd and 3rd PM's with MORE questions, an eager buyer appeared/PayPal'd/had his label printed.

Sorry if you think I've done you wrong, but we never had a "deal". Pretty bush league posting, probably should have pulled
the trigger if you wanted it so bad, eh?!

I guess you are looking for 'I will take it'. When I sell, I let the first person know that someone is in line even he is not committed as a courtesy.

No big deal. Just different way of conducting business.

Just happened to me....then he lied about me after I posted neg. feedback on him here is our conversation....check my feedback if you would like to see what he wrote. ALL my responses were instant to him (while in the middle of my work day I might add) except when I said I would get back as to how much insurance would be on a $1700.00 camera....

Right back at ya. Feel free to delete anytime - i'll do the same. Thanks!

are sig primes that terrible? I have a 35 coming tomorrow. I'm afraid i'm going to miss my 24 and 35L big time I like to use as many focus points that are available. Obviously using the 5d i have to center recompose - but i prefer a 1d type arrangement. I just sold 1d4 found it very erratic and IQ no where near 5d2. I don't have a lot of faith that the 1d-x will be awesome.

I am a focus recompose shooter so I rarely use anything but center still have my 5d but there are a few things I miss about the mk ii. Tired of using two systems canon wins because of primes....focus tracking on d700 is awesome, but I never use it

Michael, I don't really think it's appropriate to be posting these PM's when the other party isn't even involved in this thread. In either case, I also don't think it's in the 'spirit' of the feedback system to leave feedback when no transaction was completed, no money exchanged, no merchandise shipped…so maybe the potential buyer 'flaked' on you (maybe not since that's only one side of the story), so what…move on to the next buyer. Assuming that your version of the story is accurate, then I can understand your frustration but leaving negative feedback for a NON transaction isn't right either…nor is publicly posting all the PM's without the other party present.
