Some fun with the new 135mm f2 L used during a local school holiday show. I absolutely love this lens; no regrets here...thanks again Peter for your recommendation. The kids were really great; nice to see positive things going on with these young folks.
15bit: Your photos of G.B. have a holiday 3D look to them, in spite of the traffic you were stuck in .
Photon (Jess): The sunsets look great; thanks for sharing!
Psychic1: Nice capture in C.P.
Going out back for a bit with some of my legacy glass looking for some good subjects...have a great morning all!

Edd
Edd, I am happy you like the lens. As a matter of fact, you'd have a hard time finding anybody who's not impressed with 135L. However, a problem is that many people do not get to use it often enough because of a bit "awkward" FL, and perhaps lack of IS (compared to 70-200 IS versions).
However, somehow I do not think that is going to be your problem .
Those theatre shots are super.
Looks like the storm clouds are setting in now, so time to process the photos in LR3. This one needs some NR and exposure comp., but it is tack sharp...from the vintage FD 500mm f4.5 L on a monopod.
Good chickadee capture, Edd. The FD 500 f/4.5 is a direct predecessor of EF 500 f/4.5L.....also a lens with a great IQ.......I still regret selling mine.
Here is a winter friend of mine, the Longtail duck.
Handheld 1DsMkII + 800L.

Peter,
Amazing job with the 800mm hand held...seriously - great capture! The Longtail duck is seen on occasion in my area during migration, but no long-term residence here. I had an option to pick up an FD 400mm f2.8 L locally today, but after looking it over and giving it the "LED flashlight test", I passed; the spider-web signs of fungus etched within inner elements. Plus, with a weight of about 12 lbs, not too much fun to trek around with. I think you named yours (EF version) the "Herniator" for good reason... .

Edd
Edd, it is interesting that FD 400 f/2.8L is only a few oz lighter than EF 400 f/2.8 IS......they can both be rounded up to 5.4 kg. Indeed, those are not friendly lenses for hand-held shooting.
Mind you, although 800L is about two pounds lighter, it still feels very heavy in hand because of its length. No doubt, 600 f/4 would present the extreme difficulty in that regard.
I really enjoy these seasonal photo threads for the variety of subjects. This one doesn't disappoint. Good go, Peter. Have to go hunting for some snow.
