Hi Tim,
I totally agree with your comment, our guide made an error of judgement that led to this situation developing. In the guide's defence it was the elephant that closed the distance between us and it before it became upset. Once it became clear that we were too close the guide did indeed get us out of there as quickly as safely possible. My taking these shots did not in anyway slow our departure.
The guide concerned has 25 years experience which perhaps just goes to show the unpredictability of these situations and the ability of people to make mistakes despite many years of knowledge.
