I haven't posted anything here for some weeks, however in October I was lucky enough to spend two weeks in Zambia on safari in the South Luangwa National Park and then in Lower Zambezi National Park. I will post a few of my shots and thought I would start with the big guns, so here are a few of the elephants I came across whilst there.
Oh my. Lovely shots of one of my most favorite animals in two of my most favorite parks! Can't wait to get back to Zambia - a treasure that too many miss out on.
This is a fabulous set of pics, esp the calf framed by the mother in No 7.
However, I am disturbed (as was my Zimbabwean friend) that your guide allowed you to get sufficiently close to a mother with a young calf to cause her to feel that her calf was threatened.
In defence of the guide I am advised by my friend that guides Africa wide, often find them selves under pressure from their clients to get that little bit closer than their experience and knowledge suggests is optimal.
I am in no way suggesting that this was the case here and it was anything other than a chance encounter but observing and photographing animals in the wild is about observing them in their natural state, not getting in so close (especially a mother with a calf) that you provoke them
