I have a suggestion. Can u make the title section bigger because when someone is selling multiple items it's hard to see the entire title and can often miss it. Maybe making two lines for longer titles since expanding it horizontally will take up too much space.
Fred,
SEE ABOVE POSTS!
I have a "WTB" ad and I could only bump it. I wanted to edit it but it required a Description, Price, Method of Payment before I could "bump/edit" my ad after the 12 hr limit.
How do I include a price in a WTB ad?
Dan
With all this talk about keeping price as a part of the listing, I would like to suggest against it being locked in. Once a sale is made, the item AND THE INFORMATION ABOUT THAT ITEM, is now the property, and quite possibly the implied privacy, of someone other than the original poster.
I am a firm believer that once I sell an item to someone, it's no one else's business as to what I was asking for it, or where it was sold to and/or for how much. That is why once I have sold items on boards such as these, I go in and remove the pricing completely. If my buyer wants to broadcast what he is doing and how much he is spending, that's his personal business to do, not mine.

This was not done but we could have something like. "Original price" always there without the possibility of deleting it...
I don't agree Fred.I think it should be the seller's choice to leave/not leave the pricing info.
I think that by perusing the WTS ads,you get a pretty good idea of current market value.
My 2 cents..
definitely a good adjustment to the way the board works. It will go a long way in the way of relaying uniform information in the description.
I too think the tittle of the post needs to be expanded. Perhaps even at the expense of the other information like "topic starter" and "latest poster" Im not sure how relevant that info is. I even think that it would even me more relevant to have the "Latest poster" replaces by the "price" field on the main screen since thats a required field as well now. Also worth noting that the list only generates chronologically is having "time ago" field there really relevant as well?
At a glance really useful info would be
Status | What | Where | How Much | Who | Image
STATUS
Price lowered/Payment sent/SOLD
WHAT
at least 60-80 characters (will accomodate multiple items)
WHERE
(3) character max state code or CAN, UK, AUS, ETC (this might help getting items locally or closer to you)
How much
(5) character max $12000 ( Its mandatory so why not disclose it upfront before even clicking on the thread?)
WHO
(10) characters perhaps Abbreviated to save space mouse over for complete name if necessary
IMAGE
Small icon indicating an image is attached to the post (sometimes people click a post just to see a item condition in the images)
The other information can be in the post itself like view count etc. Just my 2 cents. I helped setup a a couple of different listing templates for some work related publications several years back so I hope you dont mind my suggestion. Keep up the great work that you guys do on this forum.
Status:
We already have that showing:
"New Listing",
"Price Reduced" and
"Listing Updated".
The other info is represented by how the subject line is displayed:
Subject line:
grayed out = sold
Italic font = pending
Striked = withdrawn
Available and read = color: #FFCC99
Available and unread color: #FFA500
------
What / Subject line:
We actually have 100 characters allowed. it will only show 40 but if you mouse-over, you can read up to 100 characters. Perhaps we could increase a little bit what is shown without mousing over.
------
Where:
On the FM Buy and Sell, most transactions happen in the US, so I'm not sure if it makes sense to make an entire field for this. Let me think about this.
Who:
We already have a field for that showing the username
Image:
I believe this could be ok but most listing have images. Because posters are Upload and Sell members, I'm sure this will increase even more.

Regarding the price issue. This is always a 50/50. Some folks want to know the price sold, others think it is ultimately their decision as sellers to leave the info or not. I think that if we have "original price" always showing, it could be a good compromise, but perhaps it's better to leave as it is.
Regarding the new system and WTB posts. I'm working on this. I will probably remove the price field from the form as it does not make much sense for this type of transaction.

FM has a strong feeling of community and as such, folks on FM look out and help each for each other. If I want to sell something on FM, I look up the price of sold items here first and based on that I come up with my own pricing. That's why I am a proponent of leaving some kind of price reference behind.
The B&S board is designed for private folks that want to sell their camera gear that gathers dust and it s not for commercial purposes. Several years ago, several sellers listed mulitiple items that they bought somewhere else for the purupose of reselling them for profit here. Back then they could list them without asking price and just mentioned to contact them for details and asking price. Fortunately, FM changed for the better and Fred implemented the requirement of including the asking price for every FS item.
It is entirely up to Fred whether he wants to impose the new requirement or not but at least, I brought it up to his attention and I included the reasoning behind that. Can you tell us the reason why you don't agree with that idea, please?
I have a small suggestion to what seems to be a very nice change to the boards.
How about a 4th icon that is color-coded to how many great feedback items the seller has? So 0-10 would be orange, 11-50 could be yellow and 51+ could be green, just as an example.
Some people have unspoken rules of only dealing with a seller or buyer with so many feedback.
