Addendum: I couldn't help but overhear a conversation between two Canon employees, and there were comments strongly hinting about something during the presentation regarding the November announcement. I really don't think it's my place to give out information that wasn't explicitly given to me, but I think a decent number of people are going to be rather happy.
I think the universe enables you to get information that was surely targeted to OUR EARS. That was a gift, Daniel. Do not through it away! Fullfill your destiny and TELL US!

- Banding. We were explicitly told that one of the 2 models on the table in the demo presentation had a significant banding problem. The key reason we weren't allowed to use our own CF cards yet is simple: the camera is NOT finished yet. These are very early samples, and there is a good reason it's 5 months until they're for sale - they have a lot to clear up.
Pheeew..... What a relief Canon is aware of this. Good, there is hope after all.
If memory serves me correctly, pre-production 50d's also displayed banding and canon said the same: they were taking care of the issue and production models would not have it.
We all know how that went...

My thoughts too, at least they admit this, that way they'll try and sort it out. It's better them doing all this then letting us beta test them.
Me too.
I was concerned about banding since I've noticed how poorly I can push the exposure on my 5dii I really hope they get it sorted... it's something I use a lot to expand dynamic range at a wedding.
Right now I can probably push a stop or so out, but anything more than that and the quality is just too poor.

- Viewfinder: The electronic level & overlay displays are fantastic! I really love it. The old FEL button is now M. Fn1 instead, which by default is electronic level. Unfortunately, the customising of M. Fn 1 & 2 are limited - for example you can't set them to bring up WB Shift, which is something I use a lot. I forgot to check if they allow you to set MLU using them or not though.

Thank you for a wonderful write up.
Like you, I also had the opportunity to play with the new camera at the Canon pro solutions - London and your first impression on this camera match mine very closely.
Unfortunately, MLU is not configurable for now. I pressed the UK CPS rep about it and he said and I quote "If I get enough people asking about it, we will implement configurable MLU on release"
For PJ, pap or just about any other photographer MLU configurable button is a must so...
Get those email going guys!!!.
One of the nice things I like about the specs for the 1DX is the electronic first curtain -- it would seem to eliminate the need for MLU on most time exposures with wider angle lenses. Right now, I have almost no problems shooting 15 sec to 2 minutes without using MLU, so this shutter feature is even more exciting for me. That, and the combining of multiple images bodes well for twilight photography of fixed subjects.

This, this this. Frankie said to me that Canon is listening, and they are extremely eager for feedback.
If you are CPS and are unhappy with: the resolution of the 1D-X, or the loss of AF at F8, or like me you find it odd that Custom White Balance goes 2000-10000K yet manual kelvin temperature only goes 2500-10000K, please email in. If you want the custom buttons M. Fn.1 & 2 to control MLU and WB Shift, email.
Writing on forums about feature requests or your concerns will not achieve anything, and Canon is actively looking for feedback to refine the camera right now.
I'd like MLU on a custom button but am not CPS. It seems such a simple thing if you have a button to customize a control for you, make it enable whatever control I want.
I am curious now about this announcement for November.

- Drive speed: 14fps brings a funny smile to your lips. You have to enable it via a menu, then you can select it via the normal drive button - there's no need to set MLU each time or anything like that. It works, though you lose the ability to shoot RAW & the viewfinder is black, even though it comes back afterwards. It will focus for the first frame, but after that focus and exposure are locked. With regards to the buffer, I have no idea what speed of CF card was in there, but I held down the shutter and it went and went and went. I didn't bother making a formal test of it, because of my next point. ...Show more →
I'm confused. Is there any liveview display at all on the rear screen when shooting 14 fps? Or is it black and do you have to just guess your framing since there is no viewfinder either due to the locked-up mirror? Or is it like normal liveview? I can't imagine many sports pros wanting to shoot totally blind, except maybe with a very wide angle lens! I'm hoping that there is at least a liveview display of the scene on the rear LCD at the start of a 14-fps burst.
The new motor drive speed is a tremendous technological achievement nonetheless.

This is true. Canon Canada's CPS honcho emailed me yesterday looking for feedback opinion.
It might be worthwhile though to start a 1DX feedback thread, to consolidate some ideas and get the creative juices flowing. As Daniel points out, there were specific things he would like modified. And I had a couple as well, though I do feel the camera as is would be very usable for my needs.

Dear Canon, here is my input on 1DX. If its Servo AF performance is not substantially more effective than my 1DMkIIN, then you can take your new $7,000 flagship camera back and shove it up your fat a$$.
