Space is definitely negative space. Good idea and well executed Norm. Personally, I like the partial moons more than the full ones anyhow.

Mark, Thanks. Personally, I like crescent moons best, but I couldn't find any last night.
Tonight there probably won't be any moon visible here in Tucson.

I love this shot for many reasons but most of all because I can never get a decent picture of the moon no matter how hard I try.

Thanks Pete.

Our air in Arizona is quite often clean and clear with little moisture in it. That makes it a bit easier than in more humid locations. I use an exposure of the shutter speed 1/ISO at f/11 for a full moon, f/8 at a half moon and f/5.6 for a quarter moon. Spot meter on the moon. The neat thing about digital now is you get instance feedback. This shot was cropped some to get a decent image of the moon.

The negative space provides a very nice counter weight to the subject. Nice.

I've only ever managed one reasonable moon shot so very well done on this one.

Nice shot. The black emptiness of space definitely counts as "negative space" for me

Thanks Bill. Keep trying and you'll get some good ones. Just remember the light on the moon is sunlight. If you know the "sunny F16" rule for exposure (shutter speed 1/ ISO at F:16 for average reflectance scene) you can use a "moony F11" rule for a full moon. That's because the moon absorbs a little more light.
