This morning with FD 2/35mm S.S.C. and NEX-5

Just found this thread. A lot of really nice images! Noted brdt's #1 and #2 which are stunning though it has super-ugly watermarks (somehow they're not quotable, why I dont know..). And MIchael, your #1 and #2 shots are great! Last, Piotr your images look really good, great colors but too small to judge the rest.
Looking for some WA FD glass for a NEX 5N as I have it as an alternative to the 5D2. This thread is really inspirational :-)

if so the FD must be really uncreamy, because that is the last word i would use to describe the FL's bokeh. maybe i'm more critical of bokeh than most, but when i shoot the FL wide open it's because i don't want cream. if you shoot something at mfd at f/1.2 with a distant background you can get a creamy look i guess. look at the crow shot i posted, that is wide open (same for the driving shot and flower shot) and it is not the smoothest of bokehs even with the distant background.

Still at remote area. Couldn't find any interesting objects to shot at night. So I did some simple FL 55/1.2 sharpness test shots for killing time before sleeping
Unluckily I didn't bring my FD 55 to compare.
Using live-view to get the focus. I put the camera on the table and used 10 seconds timer. The target chart is about 0.9 meter.
#1 the scene
#2 at f/1.2
#3 at f/2
#4 at f/2.8
So what MTF ratings would you give it based on these res tests?
Nice set - the FD 85/1.2 is such a wonderful lens, once gained a little popularity here on the Alt but has lost interest of late. Super sharp center, beautiful blended bokeh - Canon "L" colors, nice build, size & weight with smooth focus.
I have a 85 "L" converted with a slightly atlered optic to focus to infinity without mirror modification - some say that type of conversion degrades the IQ though I see no IQ difference compared to a Canon 85/1.8 and a Zeiss 85/1.4. I also have pseudo converted FD 85/1.2 aspherical - converted leaving about 3mm similar to an extention tube effect - will not focus to infintiy but good to about 7m - and a little closer MFD - a most favorite lens - 9 blades, love the old body style build, smaller and lighter weight than the FD "L".

yes, perhaps i was exaggerating. i have lots of shots with smooth bokeh with it at f/2 and smaller. wide open i definitely would not call it creamy and even stopped down i have a few lenses with smoother bokeh.

Actually the FD-L is the lightest of the two...The FD-L only weighs 680g, but the SSC Aspherical weighs 756g, mainly due to the use of plastics on the FD-L instead of metal for components like the aperture dial. Mind you, thats nothing to the weight of the EF versions which both weigh a hefty 1025g!
Lenticulat11, take a look on the B/S board, I just listed mine though there is no longer any need to "convert" the 85 and 55 Aspherical. It appears Ed Mika has a mount in the works that will achieve infinity on all EOS bodies except the 5D (and that's very close as well). The link to pics of the mount is in Ed's post in my thread here (he said shamelessly)
Great to see so many new posts...let's keep it rolling...
A new addition to my FD line-up; the 400mm f4.5 IF complete with the rare EH-98 lens hood. Shot taken wide-open (f4.5), NEX5n set to auto ISO, shutter priority.
Went out to my local cemetry today with only about an hour of daylight left to take some more handheld panos. Used my Canon FL 55mm f1.2, set to f2...
I posted these on the Panomania thread but I thought they should be posted here too:
Nope, no crops, all at f/1.2 without question. I set it on 1.2 and left it there the whole night - also the exposure values show it to be so for the light that was available. But I don't think there's more DOF than typically produced with f/1.2 in any other lens. You're probably just used to looking at shots which try to emphasize or over-emphasize the lack of DOF at f/1.2. Gawd knows there's plenty of those on this site.

I failed to look at this thread for a couple of days and look what happens!
Kudos to Ed Mika for his continuing work. BTW, I have a 50 f1.4 SSC and 35 f2.5 with Pengland right now for conversion.
I've also just bought a Contax G 90 f2.8, so FD 85s will be on the back-burner for a while...bought a NEX-5N, hence the G. Impressed at the 5N even with kit lens, but not giving up my EOS system!
Hi, I need to ask about FD 85 and FD 55 asph/50L :
1. I was told by FM member that the FD 85/1.2 SSC Aspherical bokeh is a bit smoother than the FD 85/1.2L. Anybody has the same experience?
2. How the 55/1.2 SSC Asph compared to the FD 50/1.2L in sharpness, color-contras, and bokeh?
My FD 55/1.2 SSC non Asph bokeh is a bit harsh (as I have posted the example on the previous page), so I think the 55 Asph will be the same. How about the FD 50/1.2L ?
