Not easy to say who started with physical violence there, it might have been the Canon fellow.
It is a sad truth that violent folks often understand no other language but that of violence. Therefore, having their lens smashed to pieces lying on the sidewalk would probably be the only type of lesson they'd absorb.
Can you imagine starting a fight with thousands of dollars of gears worth in your hand. Pretty stupid. On top of that penalties in Singapore can be harsh if it gets out of hand. After getting beaten up you get caned as well...
Strange that... From my travels to various Asian countries, I find that the average Asians usually prefer to avoid troubles, specially involving foreigners.
