I am looking for some information on a Contax Carl Zeiss 70-210mm f/3.5 Macro Vario Sonnar in the AE version of the C/Y mount. I have found precious little about this lens, especially the Macro version on the net.
I have 2 other Contax CZ lenses 28/2.8 Distagon and 85/2.8 Sonnar, that I enjoy using very much.
Thank you very much McBoom for the link to the data sheet. Its taken a week as I have had time in the evenings to do more searching, but here is some additional items...
Not a tremendous amount about it anywhere. Beyond the data sheet, I have managed to find a comparison with the Nikkor 70-210/4-5.6 along with another against the Vivitar 70-210/f3.5 and an overview article...
I just got the Contax N 70-200 3.5/4.5 VS which has better MTF at 200mm than 80-200/4 and 70-210/3.5.
It is a nice travel lens and at 200mm was sharper than my 70-200/2.8L at f8 with nice Zeiss color/microcontrast. In the corners it was not as sharp as my Leica 180/2.8 APO which of course is incredibly sharp across the frame and one of my best lenses. After my Alaska trip I wanted to find an ALT zoom to replace my 70-200/2.8L which is heavy and not that sharp at 200mm and I prefer the Zeiss colors and micro-contrast for landscape and especially Zeiss's ability to render better detail in the highlights than the Canon which washes out more. The differences between my 70-200/2.8L at 70mm shots of Denali vs my C/Y 100/2 Planar were eye opening. Both were taken from the bus where I couldn't foot zoom and even though I like the composition of the wider view of the 70mm canon, the 100/2 Planars rendering of the snowy mountain top was incredible.
