Unfortunately, it's not just at high ISO's. Even at ISO 200, it's clear the APS 24MP sensor in the a77 is noisy. You can really see this if you look at the gray scale section of the color checker chart.
Look how the NEX 5N compares with the 5d2 at ISO 1600. It really is amazing what Sony is doing....

Oops, you put the 5d ii on 3200 by mistake I think. But comparing the 5N at 1600 to the 5d ii at 3200 it seems that there's under a stop of difference in ISO quality! Comparing the 5N at 3200 to the a77 at 1600, the 5N looks to be a whole stop better! I'm very excited about the 5N. Here's the a77 @ 1600 vs. 5N @ 3200:
I actually like how the 5N holds its contrast at such a high ISO. The noise on the 5DMKII is definitely finer though. Should be interesting to see how the MKIII performs.
Also I'm really excited about the NEX-7 but I may have second thoughts if the sensor performs similarly to the A77.
Ok, way too much time on my hands but here it goes. Downloaded the a77 and NEX 5n ISO 200 raws from Dpreview, processed them similarly in Raw Photo Processor (beta v. for a77), opened both up in PS and resized the NEX 5n to the same size as the a77 just using simple bicubic. To my eyes, I don't think anything is really gained in resolution going with the a77 but even sized up, I think the 16MP sensor in the 5n still shows lower noise. Thus, if the NEX-7 behaves similarly, I would have preferred the NEX-5n 16MP sensor in it vs the 24MP sensor. Better glass on the NEX-7 might show off the 24MP resolution though, I don't know. Sorry for those who have to scroll.
Try and look for the text "MADAGASCAR" on the globe (lower middle part). The A900 depsite its noisy reputation shows the text quite clearly. The A77 is all mess, no way to know what is there. The 7D and 5N seem quite close so that you can kind of make out the individual letters if you already know what letters you are looking for. 7D is probbaly a bit more clear.

Nice Tariq. They actually look pretty close. The borders of letters look a little sharper on the Nex 7 but not by much.
Any difference at Base ISO?
No NEX 7 in that comparison. a77 vs. NEX 5n.
I was comparing these to the a900 actually so I used ISO 200. From what I see on the Dpreview comparo page though, the NEX 5n still maintains a noise advantage over the a77 at base ISO similar to the advantage it has at ISO 200. That 5n sensor is impressive.
Here's A77 compared to the GH2 at ISO 800, the latter increased in size to 24MP in CS4 (bicubic). No sharpening.
A77:
GH2:
Part of the difference is probably due to the superior Zuiko lens (50mm f/2.0 macro) compared to the Sony 50mm f/1.4, but I suspect that the Panasonic sensor is also better than the Sony.

Claims to have used a NEX 7, 3 small pics without exif,
says he posted full size on flickr, but I only see a65, a77, 5n, m9 pics.
I'm close to calling this fake, to create traffic.
I can vouch for Rob. I've known him for about 20 years and can confirm that he has access to the NEX-7, as well as any other Sony photographic products. As it states in his About Me blurb: "I work for Sony..."
I bet that once the NEX-7 hits the shelves, people will be raving about how great the perfomance is and how much better it is than the 5N. Most people dwelling on these minor performance differences are those who are contemplating buying the 5N but are unsure if the NEX-7 will be better. Put some good glass on that NEX-7 and I am confident it will outperform the 5N. Time will tell of course and in the end (as always) it will come down to personal needs/preferences.

How does the 7 differ from a 5N with external viewfinder, except for the viewfinder integration, and the physical dimensions?
There are actually quite a few fairly significant differences. Best to compare the two spec sheets..... I would love a side by side shootout of 5N vs 7.
I did just that, and came up with relatively little. Yes, the 7 can shoot 3 fps Vs the 2.3 of the 5N, which suggests greater computing power. Yes, it can do another half-stop in high ISOs. But that in itself doesn't amount to much is the IQ isn't better than the 5N's. In 6 weeks, we will know, and I will compare a 7 to my 5N. Until then, I take what is published on the basis of JPEGs from pre-produciton cameras with a large grain of salt.
Yes, I do as well Phillippe. I will be eagerly awaiting your test results. I really do like the form factor of these Sony models and really do hope they improve with each model. It will be nice to see some RAW comparisons with good glass....
