I really wonder why they couldn't make the magnification user selectable. No reason it really needs to be hardwired to 7x or 14x etc.
Really depends on the lens and what your shooting I found as sometimes 7x wasn't enough, others it was more than I needed. 14x was sometimes much too shakey, othertimes gave me the detail I needed for critical work.
Just let the user select what they want for two options, be it 4x and 12x or 3x and 9x etc
See no reason why that has to be a hardwired thing in the firmware

Of course. And it can tilt as well. And the whole setup is cheaper to boot. What's not to like?
Happy shooting,
Yakim.
I definitely like the ability to look down into a viewfinder but appreciate having a VF in the 7 without compromising the profile of the body. If I needed a low angle I would just use the LCD. Different needs though. The 5N looks great and the ability to add a VF is real nice.
I really don't care that much about ISO quality above 800 to be honest. I never end up shooting that high and if I'm shooting at night, use a damn tripod.
Sure you could do some interesting effects with high iso and a high shutter speed but how often do I do that versus shooting at base ISO.
My concerns:
30% - How intuitive and customizable is the camera
30% - How good is the dynamic range and noise at ISO 400 and lower
30% - How big is the camera and how are the ergos, is it weather sealed and good quality
10% - How good is the ISO800 and above

NEX with tripod? Ouch. Why buy small and light camera and lenses only to make it heavier and more cumbersome? YMMV of course but don't like that mix.
I agree. The ability to be mobile and low key with the NEX was the reason I bought it in the first place. The inclusion of the EVF in the 7 along the added control wheels is a big plus, but what sets the two apart for my use is the inclusion of a std (with the addition of an adaptor) hot shoe.
Regarding high ISO noise, the 5N is certainly better than the A77 (imaging resource comparometer), so we'll see how much improvement the removal of the pellicle mirror will give to the NEX7.
Light weight camera = light weight minimal tripod. That is unless there's heavy winds or weather. Some stuff you just can't do without a tripod or good standing monopod.
