There are already reviews for Nikon and Canon FF at photozone. All very, very positive.

I think I'm going to sell my Nikkor 35/1.4 Ai and pick one of these up.

But has anyone done a side by side comparison between the Rokinon and the Nikon Ai-S yet?
I'm very happy with my Nikon so I'm going to keep it unless I can find a decent comparison that proves the Rokinon is better.

Did you ever test it against the Nikon? Curious to hear your opinions of the two. I just picked up a Nikon and have been very impressed.

I did. If you just ran a flaw by flaw comparison, like what I did with the Rok and the Lux, the Nikon would not look like a good choice. Center sharpness wide open, corner performance, distortion, CA, even flare, all favor the Rok. But there are three reasons the Rok is packed up to be shipped back and my Nikon remains in my bag (for now). 1. Color rendition- the Nikon isn't any more accurate, but it does provide a much more pleasing balance, particularly in heavily mixed lighting situations. 2. Drawing style- like the 50/1.2, this lens has

Phew!...Thats good news. I'd still like to see some side by side comparison pics, if thats possible?

The Samyang is sharper across the frame wide open, and its bokeh is more neutral/less psychedelic than the Nikkor. The Nikkor certainly wins in build quality, but the MF action is actually very nice on the Samyang and it definitely doesn't feel cheap—it's just not all metal like the Nikkor. I'm very very pleased with my switch.

Absolutely not, really appreciate the detailed response! I've seen similar stuff like this but was caught by the sense of depth here, and therefore reckon a lens like Samyang 35/[email protected] is an unusual good prospect for creating this kind of effect. Definitely need to try.

What is the Swedish word for "the tactile sensation of reality communicated through a static image"? I think that's a nice word for these types of pictures.

I have absolutely no idea But I think I understand what you mean. So yes: 3D, presence, authenticity, reality-feel, depth, etc - all belongs to a specific image and how it appeals in a want-to-grab-something-in-it fashion. An extreme example could be exemplified with a fake tilt-shift image like this. It kind of makes the point. I think.

(sry for posting a non-Samyang image, but it could have been one)

Dont think so. As Canon is probably the major mark for 35/1.4 (or any other Samyang for that matter) it would have come out first if they carried such plans, but now there's a Nikon out. So my bet is that you need to do it yourself.

For me there are two purposes for a chip:
- AF-confirm: but a replacement EG-S screen for the 5D2 is a far better option according to me
- EXIF data. I'd like this if it would tell the aperture.

...my cents.

Gregg -- Beautiful leaf shots!

I had been having trouble not only with some Sammylux, but also ZE. I was very thorough in adjusting the +/- diopter and seem to have it better now.

My 14/2.8 -- everything looked sharp, but sadly wasn't when viewed on the computer monitor.

The 14/2.8 had severe problem with focus misadjustment (far past infinity), and I sent it back to Elite Brands in New Jersey. I contacted them today and they are unable to adjust, so it will probably have to go back to Korea, in which case I would get a replacement (they are out at the momemt!) or have to wait until they batch enough units to ship back and have repaired. I'm hopeful they will find me a replacement that is in-spec.

My advice: if you can avoid sending it back for warranty, and not violate warranty by working on it yourself or any other repair service, see if you can remedy by adjusting your technique. But if it is bad, send it on back!

My 35 and 85 are fine.

Wishing you the best.

Thank you Gunzorro...
Yeah, I'm not sure what to do??!! Maybe I'll play with my diopter some more..but it's funny, what works with ,say, for example, my 100MP, doesn't seem to work for the Rokinon?? Go figure!!
Gregg -- Beautiful leaf shots!...again, Thank you

Gregg -- I would think the setting should work the same for similar focal lengths/apertures (and ideally all properly calibratied lenses). As I mentioned, the 14/2.8 is extremely hard to find precise focus (the ZE 21 is also tricky without AF confirm), faster/longer lenses will be more precise (I almost never miss with the 85/1.4, although my C/Y 135/2.8 is a little trickier).

If you need info, here's Elite Brands phone, ask for Samyang/Rokinon repair -- (800) 441-1100.

A couple comparisons from today, showing wide open f/1.4 and the same shot with f/4. Naturally, the f/4 has better IQ and details, but f/1.4 is surprisingly good. Shot on 1D2 with B+W CPL.

Hey Gunzorro...aren't you loving this CA weather right now!! Seems you got out bright and early this morning based on the shadows of this and the 85mm shots!! Good for you. Thank you for the phone number to the Elite CO...I actually have the warranty card and info in the box for the Rok 35 1.4. I will be calling them. I wish I could send it to the place in Arizona that does Sigma and other lens fixes(can't think of the name off the top of my head right now), but oh well. I will keep you posted.

Gregg -- Yes, at the moment the weather is great! Windy, but very bright. Yeah, I got out and hit the ground running early today.

I am really loving these Samyang lenses -- especially the fast 35. I can see why so many Zeiss fans have been loving that new ZE/ZF f/1.4 lens. I'd still ike to see a nice comparison between the two brands, even if the Zeiss is better, it would be good to know how much better.

Hi,
Just a quick question. Does your Samyang focus pass infinity?
Mine does, the shop said it was to cater for NEX mount, is that true?

Thanks
Justin

With my Sony mount version, infinity focus appears to be a tiny amount less than the actual stop. I really doubt this has anything to do whatsoever with NEX compatibility. Probably just a matter of tolerances to make sure all lenses will focus at least to infinity.
