Great shots everyone! I was once a Minolta shooter as well but that was before Sony really unfurled the banner so I switched. Have some regrets really, there is some stellar equipment on the Sony side of life.

I have said some unkind things about the esteemed Minolta 200mm APO f2.8 HS I have, mostly how its colour palette, lack of colour tonality, and lack of depth do not match my subject matter, so let me illustrate what I mean.

These images were shot within 10 minutes of each other, same post work, the first with the above-mentioned Minolta tele (on A900), the second with a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 on a Sony A700, a lowly but well-accepted aftermarket item, with an absolutely dismal build quality.
I have no complaints about the Min 200mm's resolving power however.

philip_pj, the scenery in your shots looks somewhat familiar to me. Is that Tibet?

Hello Snopchenko, those images are of the Indus Valley in Ladakh, which is actually in Indian territory north of the Himalaya - a 50 minute (highly scenic) flight from Delhi. A lot of travelers to the region believe that Tibetan Buddhism is more authentic and sustainable in India, and this is true to some extent, due to the lack of political interference in that country.

As it happens, we just returned from five weeks in Tibet. It is truly remarkable (a gross understatement) and it has to be said, a more rewarding cultural and natural experience than travel in Ladakh/Zanskar, wonderful though those regions are.

Time was often tight - 2-3 hours shooting during and after an 8 hour drive is not easy at altitude. After 4500kms in a 4wd over 20 days in all conditions, both Sonys are working like new, apart from needing a sensor clean. Talk of Sony making toy cameras for consumers is way off the mark! best, philip.

Thanks Yes, Maxxum 7 and Provia 400X. For some reason, I think the ZA perform much better on film.

Or, could be that for some reason film performs much better than digital?

Let's not open the can of worms, but let's say that the color reproduction and contrast curve of film makes results with the ZA more interesting than the flat mid-tone curve of the A900

More like a hipster invasion, this was shot during Nuit Blanche last weekend so they had the Provincial Legislature all lit up with floods.

I meant all those strange lights in the sky. Are these lens ghostings or lighting effects?

Lens flare, the DT 16-50 does seem to have problems with very strong point sources (those floods were extremely bright).
