p.1 #1 · Bryan Kit Foong - Finest Picks

Hi everyone.
I'm Bryan, a wedding photographer based in Singapore.
I wish to share my work to everyone here. Feel free to comment and critique my work. Thank you.

By the way I'm currently working on the Nikon System and most of the time with the Profoto Acute B2 600 AirS.

On the bottom image, that naked tree kind of sticks out like a sore thumb, and should be pretty easy to clone out.

Welcome to fm.

Thanks Kim. I absolutely get what you mean. Somehow over here in the Asia Pacific, couples usually like photos that are significantly post processed. But of course there is also a market for clean images as well.

And as my country is in the tropical area, we get a lot of rain and dramatic clouds. Later on I'll share some of these photos created using strobist technique to increase the dynamic range.

Thank you for supporting =)

Don't you guys look at other peoples blogs? The amount of editing done every post on many is way more than this.

I only return slightly over 300 photos for a full day wedding.

The practice in Asia Pacific is different from the Americans or Europeans. You guys tend to do the portraits on the same day probably after the ceremony.

However in Asia, our couples have the practice of doing what we call the, Pre-Wedding Bridal Portraits. Usually they only pick a handful of 20-40 images for the album to be displayed during their Wedding day reception.

I enjoy each of the samples you've posted, especially the last two. I can easily see the last shot being the background for a print advertisement for most any product, wedding related or not. That composition, to me, almost begs for a product image to be superimposed on the table---a Movado, diamond ring, etc., etc. I love the image because, as a designer, I can see so many other ways that this one could be used apart from wedding proofs and prints. Really, the same for both of the last two.

As for critiques, I only have two. 1) I agree with the bare tree comment in the background of image 3. Clone that out and there are no distractions really. I would CONSIDER cloning the tan colored leaf or bare patch of grass under the front wheel of the bicycle. Once that caught my eye, it was hard to avoid it. 2) This isn't really a critique as a personal thing, so feel free to dismiss this last comment as my obsessiveness, but for some reason lines extending to the exact corner of a composition have always bothered me. For example, in image #2, the wooden walking path ends directly in the corner. Most people may not care one way or another on this topic, some may but not enough to ever notice it. For me, it's always a distraction be it photography, painting, video, etc. I don't think this is really a comment on your image, as it's a great image. I'm just using the image as an example of an element that others may (or may not) find distracting---as something to think on for other compositions.

Beyond that, there's little I can find to critique. Beautiful images, there. I love the tree in the first sample. The texture, position, cropping, the twisting of the branches, it all throws so many symbolic concepts at me. When I look at it, I can't help but think of time, age, family, new growth, and such. Whether that's intentional or not, there's just something about that particular tree that suggests it's more than just a compositional prop. At least that's my view. Again, just something to consider exploring.

Good luck to you and your work. All the best,

- noel.

Noel...Thank you for the critique...I agree with you on your first point and for the second point. I never noticed that until you said it. Will be careful with paths leading out of the frame next time. Thank you so much.
