Trying my hand at panos/stitches. Here's an old threshing machine - 12-shot stitch with a Tamron 17-50, processed in Hugin. There are some parallax errors, so I will probably reshoot this image at some point.
Thanks also for sharing your experiences with the NEX-7 and Sigmarit. I am taking delivery of a NEX-C3 and the Sigmarit early next week, and have been wondering whether they could be used for panos as well. I was browsing the manual and noticed that the sensor plane mark is stamped on the bottom cover of the C3, so that should make things easier.
That said, I am still having some trouble figuring out the no-parallax point of various lenses. I tried a two-row pano with my Samyang 35 using my makeshift pano head (gimbal + macro rail), and the test pano turned out great with only a quick visual check, but the above threshing machine taken with the Tamron didn't work out so well (I should have actually marked up the Tamron's no-parallax points for various focal lengths from the database here http://wiki.panotools.org/Entrance_Pupil_Database).
Anyway, I'd be grateful if you could share the distance from sensor plane to the no-parallax point of the Sigmarit, if you've managed to measure it already.
Hi Jaacco,
My system isn't quite as precise as the one you're showing simply because I don't want to carry around a large
pano bracket. I measured the distance on my set up, it looks to be 50mm. I use this system to find nodal point which everyone probably uses. I've been using Photoshop CS6 lately which seems to be quite good at stitching even when everything's not quite perfect.
thanks! it was one of the more difficult ones – i had to boost exposure a full stop and max out fill light in the shots that did not contain the sun in the frame in order to match the veiling flare of the shots with the sun in the frame.
The first three were shot with the Contax Zeiss 35mm 1.4 in 3 shot panos I think wide open. For these they were vertical for the horizontal and visa versa. 4th I think was with the 21 ZE and the last was maybe 9 shots wide open with the Contax Zeiss 100 f2.
I've been really struggling with the colour balance recently and I'd like to blame my 5D2 but I think it's just me. Any advice would be appreciated but I always feel the greens look crap and the yellows look pale. The first two look horrible to me too colour wise.
On second thoughts I think I've been overexposing too much as I had been able to expose to the right with my 1Ds2 and pull a little in post. I think the 5D2 screws the colours when you do this so I have recently been trying to nail the exposure a little darker and push the shadows if I need to, and just be careful of the banding as my 1Ds2 was a little more forgivable in that regard.
Really nice set! The only one I am not keen on this time is the sign one
I don't know about the colour problem, but Canons have an odd response to red, which needs some care to get around. Perhaps other can chime in on their 5DII colour workflows.
I think I may be right with the overexposure problem. I have taken a load of new Scotland photos this week (the ones just posted are from April) and this time am taking care to slightly Underexpose instead of over, hopefully it will retain the colour channels a lot better and result in more accurate colours.
I take it you are not seeing any problems with colour then Carsten? Maybe I am being a little harsh as they are my own photos...
