obik -- AWESOME! I love these shots. Especially the wider view of the apricot -- like something alien and bizarre with that green eruption.
I'm glad you like them. This is the kind of photography I've always wanted to do, and now I'm actually doing it! I feel like a kid in a candy store. Of course, I still can't light these minuscule scenes for shit, but hopefully I'll be able to figure it out soon.
Details for each shot should be spelled out the metadata captions.
I'd love to own the MPE 65, but my finances won't allow for it at the moment...and even if they did, it's probably third or fourth on my lens purchase list.

I know. Unfortunately. But not all kinds of mold are the same. Cheese molds (the good kinds) are edible, for example.
Blue cheese and blue bread are the same molds a lot of the time, and the bouquet of blue cheeses is often from the same bacteria that make sweaty tennis shoes smell bad. I wouldn't eat the blue apricot...but I won't eat blue cheese either. They're fascinating to observe, but that's as far as I'll go.

@obik: I love it, inspiring work. What was the lighting like with those shots?
Three 430 EXs. I usually stick one in a 5x8 softbox and float it over the subject, then have one light on the left, one on the right. I'll see if I can dig up the lighting diagrams, if you want.

I love blue cheese I don't take any risks with bread or tennis shoes.
blue cheese is delicious. the mold doesn't add to the flavor of bread unfortunately (unless included with the rest of the cheese), but i wouldn't worry if you accidentally eat some. if your eating socks or shoes you have bigger problems.
