Hard to pick, lots of great stuff here as always!

Can anyone share insights in how the C/Y 100/2 and C/Y 50/1.4 compare to their newer Zeiss ZE siblings? Are they comparable at all? From what I've seen the C/Y 35/1.4 is as good as anything produced on that focal range.

There are some locally available, a bit pricy - but still FAR less than ZE's ...

EDIT: and should I expect mirror interference from these on a Canon 5D2?

C/Y 100/2 P is little less sharp than 100MP at f2 but similar sharpness at other apertures. The MP has stronger drawn type bokeh vs. the more painterly drawn bokeh of the 100P. No mirror problems for either C/Y 100/2P or C/Y 50/1.4P.
The C/Y 50/1.4P is same optical formula as Z* 50P, only difference is the Z* is slightly warmer colors.
I think the C/Y 100/2 P has more 3-d than the 100MP but that is debatable. I have 100/2P and contax n 50/1.4 which is similar to c/y 50/1.4.

So far I have had it only a day and I hardly have had any time to shoot with it due to work being extremely busy right now.
I agree pretty much with what has been said about so far.
The saturated colors and lack of CA is very nice and I will try to shoot a comparison shot with another zeiss lens like 35/2 to show the difference.
The build is typical solid Zeiss build with smooth focus ring. A large portion of the focus ring throw is for the close distances. Infinity to 1m is not very far apart.
I will show comparisons with my 24G/1.4
It seems like the lens performs better for near and medium distances, not as well at far distances. But I want to confirm this more.
I also wish for low-light shooting purposes that it was 1.4 instead of f2 lens.
The sharpness across the frame at f2 for this bar scene was very good. I will provide crops later.
Lens is definitely optimized for f2 and close to mid distance shooting.
To be continued ...

very nice, akul, thanks.
wfrank, as Wayne said, not much difference with the CY 50mm Planar, smaller filter size, 290 grams vs 380 grams weight, and much less expensive - another fine forgotten fifty.

The CY 35/1.4 is close to unique, and most overlook that its special rendering continues stopped down, with excellent resolution out to the far edge. I agree with your statement.

'Lens is definitely optimized for f2 and close to mid distance shooting.'
Thanks so much, Wayne, and plus one for anything more from you! It continues the 'wide aperture, close distance' emphasis by Zeiss in the modern lenses, and so is now out for me except for appreciation of others' work.

Carsten - WOW Beautiful set. I really like the color and texture on them. They are very tactile, I feel the moisture in my hand. Great use of 100MP.

philip_pj - Thank you

feto - Thank you. I was hand holding, and missed focus a bit, but I still liked the shot, so I posted.
Your #2 and #3 are beautiful. #3's composition is very pretty.

Wayne - Thank you for the 25 shots. I agree, the bus is a great subject for showcasing this lens's color. Wonderful detail and dimensionality. Color from #1, #2, look very good. And the #3 in comparison to #4 ( 21) to me tells that this is not bad for landscape either. #3, detail of the rocks, and sand on the beach, as well as the texture from the shrub on the rock looks very good.

and some close shots with oof boket pleeeease ;-)

#4 is an awsome shot too, interesting how different those rocks look in 3 and 4.

Bob love that fine detail of the tree silouhette and the simple clean comp.
My favorite bench shot!
Akul, my favorite is the pipes abstract.
Carsten, nice set, like the first one the best.

My first shot is new 25/2 at 5.6.
This colorful bus screams zeiss to me.
I just picture this bus as the neigborhood zeiss bus, carrying lots of zeiss lenses to hand out to all the cool kids!

2nd shot is 25/2 at f2 or 2.8.

3rd shot is 25/2 at f8 landscape shot

4th shot is 21/2.8 at f8

BTW, for all you Exif readers, the exif for my 25/2 shots says 35/2
...Show more

Really beautiful shots Wayne. The 25 f/2 has tons of character to my eye. Really like the rendering from the lens.

Heh, I remember someone saying in some thread that this lens didn't have the Zeiss look for him...
Looks good, Wayne. By the way: your copyright character isn't coming through for me; it says . You'll want this one ©.

That was not me as I have always said this lens would be good for close to mid distance shooting and had good points of low CA and good color. I was critical of its far distance performance and the fact Zeiss didn't design this lens to be f1.4. I have some comparison shots with my 21 of the Stanford church to post soon which show the corner behavior of the 25/2.
I wanted to ask someone about the copyright symbol problem.
I use the image upload and check the copyright option which puts that on but doesn't have the copyright symbol correct. What is the ASCII code for that?
The other thing not so good about it, is if someone on the net copies the picture, the watermark is not on it.
Hope Fred fixes thaw things.

Maybe the problem is that you are using ASCII? Try using Latin-1, which is standardized in the upper 128 characters. If you cannot choose character set with Fred's upload thingie, maybe just type "Copyright".
