Thanks Carsten. As I am a bit too far from Berlin, I had to find my own urbex site Wonderful shots in the Berlin Photo meat thread. May be one day, I hop in a redeye and attend the meeting.

That would be great, if you could make it! I would recommend waiting until late March or early April, for the nicer weather.

It is a nice shot, fefo, but I think not your strongest. Perhaps knowing more about the subject would help put it into perspective. What is it?

-Akul i like the background of your shot!nice colors!

-Carsten,you're right, I could do better..
i think you know,is a little hard for me to explain in english,so i put a link to the page of the Sanctuary of St. Jerome, which I visited, located near the Lake of Lecco here in the north Italy, a place that combines nature, beautiful landscapes, history and spirituality
in the link you can find the history of the place, and what to visit there, I think I'll be back there in the spring!

Has anyone done a comparison of the C/Y 35-70mm 3.4 with the Contax G 35-70mm 3.5-56? While the G lens does not have the macro function and only works from around a meter, it is so much smaller than the CY 35-70.
I see comments on the G 35-70 being less sharp than the Contax G primes, but the MTF sheets of the G 35-70 do not look that far away from those of the C/Y 35-70. The lens data pages are available for viewing here:
http://lenses.zeiss.com/photo/en_DE/service/download_center.html
Photozone on the other hand ranks the CY 35-70 lens way above the Contax G, the CY earning 94 out of 100 stopped down both at the short and longer FL, while the Contax G only manages 68 and 65 respectively,

John,

That might be a hard comparison. CY is SLR lens, G is rangefinder lens. Unless there is someone with NEX and both lenses + adapters, it would be hard to do side by side comparison.

Thanks Akul!
Contas, those berries or whatever are really something and some 3d.

Can anyone comment on how to judge sharpness comparisons on Zeiss MTF data sheets versus scores approaching the mid 90s out of 100 on the photozone chart? What I do not understand is why the Contax G 35-70mm 3.5-5.6 seems similar to the CY 35-70mm (at least to my eyes) on the Zeiss MTF data but is so far off on Photozone.

yep, inglis, photozone in this instance is a *survey* as in how does each contributor rate their lens, not particularly scientific, no?

IMO you are much better comparing the Zeiss MTF, identical methodology applies to these lenses. Together with images you may come across, and personal reviews from known users, not many for the G zoom as they sold few of them.

The MTF for these two are quite similar, the G edges the CY at 35mm, and the reverse applies at 70mm. Distortion goes to the G, hardly surprising, and the G is 290 grams versus 475 grams. Both will deliver in spades for slow aperture shooting, and both are great value for what you get.

Photozone generally is quite narrow focus and have some dodgy criteria/priorities for 'lens quality'. It's quite popular however - go figure.

Contas - Fruit shot is very nice. I like the tone / texture of the plaster wall and the clay pot on the last shot, but it gives me slightly washed out feeling. Probably roof is the factor as I like it more when I view it zoomed in without roof.

Has anyone used the CY 35-70 in painting or sculpture museums? At least the sculpture museums on the Museum Island in Berlin have plenty of light. Painting museums are not usually so well lit. On a 1.5 crop camera, 35mm is not wide enough for some things, but the macro could be helpful for small objects. Since this lens can operate at 3.4 at both at 35 and 70mm, the 70mm would be usable for sculpted faces and what not. Just wondering if anyone has tried this lens for this purpose and or would have a thought on its usefulness.
