Thanks Vincent!

Gregg -- Very interesting! Granted that this is a limited test, but it seems the Rokinon does quite well -- even the contrast and color balance seems almost the same as the C/Y. If anything, the Rok might have slightly smoother bokeh, but that seems to be splitting hairs. I see a little more color fringing (on the white columns) in the last Rok frame of the background.

What are your impressions when you can look at 100%?

Gunzorro...you should be able to click on the magnify button above the photo and it will take you to another window and you should be able to zoom in to close to 100%...I think..

Yep, I wondered if anyone was going to call me on that. Both those last ones are. The Willow one is 210 shots and the Island one is 120 cropped down to about 60 or 80. I was trying to go for that BG/Subject separation like you achieved. I think I failed BTW... What, I need a much smaller subject or something? Also which stitcher are you using? APG isn't so hot for trees it seems.

Now that I look closer, I see it in both of them. I love the subtle LF-like rendering that this technique yield. 210 is just nuts, you are even crazier than I am What sort of capture parameters (focal length, aperture, distance, effective focal length)?

I am not sure why these are so subtle, compared to some others. I skipped the island one a little quickly the first time I looked at it, undeservedly. Possibly because I thought the WB was a bit purplish, and the unsharp leaf region in the top right bothered the composition a bit. It is really quite gorgeous though (and the filtered version is very neat too). Perhaps a step to the left, or a lower position, would make it feel a bit more intimate? I don't suppose you can go closer?

The tree looks a little fake somehow, but I am not familiar with the flora of Japan, so maybe it looks very realistic? The luminescent green combined with the darker tone of the image perhaps? If I had to be critical, I find the tree a little too far away, and the bridge too dominant, considering it is just a plain modern-looking bridge of sorts. With something smaller and more delicate in the foreground, and the tree closer and more dominant, it might feel more right? I might also clone the bicycle and lamp post, which detract a bit from the right-hand side. If you want to keep the bridge, I might step back and use a larger focal length, to compress it a bit, or step forward and leave out the left post, which is rather dominant, yet blurry. Perhaps the same tree, shot from somewhere to the right of the bridge, might be an interesting composition?

In both of them, slightly less depth of field would help, I think.

Anyway, those are just my quick thoughts, feel free to disagree

I am not sure what you mean with "I took in the dark", but I like the shot overall, with these changes. I would say that the background looks a little too blue and artificial, and the outlines where you made a selection are too obvious.

Nice colours and composition on that one. I am not a big flower person, so #2 is not for me. I wonder if #1 would have been better with a little more depth of field, to make the railing sharp as well?

I know it would have been better, and wonder why I did not take a shot at f/4 or 5.6.

Never the less, thank you both

Warren -- Very good color and contrast on both pictures. Looks like you have a very nice lens there.

Hey guys,

I am having troubles with CA in high contrast edges with the Zeiss 35/2 on my 50D. Do you guys have any tips on how to remove them in PP? I try to selectively desaturate and repaint using history brush but it didn't work so well.

Also any tips on taking pictures against the light sources (the sun for e.g) I am all years. Thank you all very much,

An

If you have lots of light, you are probably shooting at base ISO, where you can pull something out of the shadows. Try stopping down a little and underexposing a little.

atran -- If using LR3 or Canon DPP, you can use sliders in the lens profile (LR) or adjust the CA manually (either). I don't recall having much CA trouble with my ZE 35/2 in high contrast lighting.

This lens does have CA close to wide open in high-contrast lighting, I have a number of shots like that made with it. Still a great lens though.

some more 28/2 wide open for Carsten. Unfortunately I haven't got much to show yet, but I will scratch some more together if you don't mind greenery and flowers :
I wanted to test the closup bokeh at first.

That second-last shot is exactly the type of thing I want to do! I am pretty sold on this lens, I just need to sell one or two things to raise the money. Anyone want to buy a Nikon 200/2 VR, Leica Dual-Range Summicron, Nikkor 60/2.8 Micro, CV15, Arsat 30/3.5 Contax 645 mount, Manfrotto 405 Geared Head, Acrateh Leveling Base, etc? These will all be up on FM's B&S, I just didn't get around to some of them yet. EU preferred.

ok, here is three more which are somewhat similar. Not great pictures, but you can see how it renders. some field curvature in the first one, the focus point is kind of weired in this one.
