Thanks all you X100 posters -

I have finally pulled the trigger and ordered one on Amazon - God knows how long to get it - but at least I am in line! Several reviews - but mostly your posts on this forum, let me know that it is a good camera for me.

Thanks,

Rick

Rick, do yourself a favour. Do NOT get upset with the flaws. You'll learn and adapt. It's a great camera with an image quality that is hard to beat. I haven't touched my D700 since I got it.

And about all those tests... They tend to forget about the important part. The images. This is a camera to bring everywhere and take those pictures that you would have missed when you left the SLR at home or broke your back for when you brought it along.

Are we really to believe that you received a great little camera like the X100, didn't take a single test shot, just drove all the way out to the mountains before pressing the shutter the first time, making a great shot?

Makten,

Yes I believe I understand the pros and cons - IQ is definitely a very important aspect to me. In addition, the fact that the camera is easy to take along will mean more opportunity to shoot. It seems to me your very own postings demonstrate an "Artistic Eye" unleashed - so to speak.

Thanks,

Rick

Infinity focus looks pretty good to me.

It is true and Thank you.
And living in Salt Lake City - it's a blissfully short drive to the mountains

Just keep in mind to avoid higher than 1/1000 whenever possible.

Sure, what are you trying to ascertain? I don't post completely unprocessed raws (always levels etc) unless I'm trying to do a lens test... is there something specific you want left out? The original after levels is basically a similar image with a more 'natural' color. I'll post when I get back to the other machine.

Seeing this thread keeps pushing me in the direction of trading over to the X100. I'm currently a m4/3 user (for my around town, and fun shooting) and I also work with a 35mm rangefinder.

Obviously I would like interchangeable lenses, but being limited to a 35mm f/2 doesn't bother me in the slightest as it's my favorite working focal length.

Do you guys think it would be a worthwhile switch from a decent micro 4/3 system?

Worthwhile is probably a personal judgment, but the high ISO is likely to be much better, as is the viewfinder, and possibly the balance in your hands.

All incredibly important factors to me. I wish I could do an even swap, but the X100 still carries a well inflated price..

I'm not sure I'd switch to the X100 and not have a choice of other lenses.

If it weren't for the X100, are you happy with your current setup? What are you missing?

The X100 makes a fantastic 2nd camera. It's the digital compact I've been waiting for ever since I left film. That said, it isn't a replacement for a more capable system.

It's a larger sensor. So you can crop to a 50mm equivalent, and still be at the size of an m4/3 sensor.

It does make me lust for a digital M.
