I haven't kept count so I can't rightly say. Perhaps if you PM "h00ligan" from whom I got the X100 he's be able to tell you better. I've only used two batteries, even though I got 3 from him. I just have to remember always to have one in my pocket ready to go
I thinks you'd get more easily with judicious power saving and careful use of overlaid ovf. Iirc the evf takes less juice than the ovf with overlaid info, fwiw
Re: focusing - I always use center-point, AF-S. I just discovered that you can increase or decrease the size of the focus point with the little toggle switch that sits behind the shutter trigger.
I made the focus point as large as it could be, and have since noticed a dramatic increase in speed and accuracy of the AF.
Also there is a large, aggravating minimum focus distance unless you switch to macro (or faster/easier, use the EVF!). The OVF and LCD screen have large MFD's. I cannot for the life of me understand why the EVF would have a shorter MFD than the screen - those two should be identical - but the screen behaves in the same way as the optical viewfinder, requiring a switch to macro mode closer than a few feet from your subject.
So far, I've found it easiest to put the focus mode switch in "manual" and use the "AFL/AEL" button to focus. No need to switch over to macro mode doing it in this manner. Seems to work best in EVF mode. Yeah, pressing the "AF" button and toggling the command level back and forth adjust the focus point size, and you can use the control dial to move the focal point....
Takes some getting use to, but I think it'll work out just fine....
I was five hours in to the party (read: druuuuunk) and forgot to move the EV dial back to 0 (so I had to bump everything up a stop in LR3), but the X100 went to New Year's:
I am off on a Cruise to Western Caribbean on the 8th - I am bringing only one camera - the X100 - I promise to post when I get back - this thread is worth keeping up!
The second one was shot at night at 1/15 F5.6 ISO 3200 just to see how well it performs. Focus was pretty good with the light I had, and I did some minor noise reduction with Photogene (having to use the iPad at work)
