Great lens, irrespective of price I think. I don't use it a lot but when I do use it it does its part as long as I do mine. These are quite heavily cropped and I might have been a but too enthusiastic with sharpening:

Well since no one wants to play "shoot the dollar" (see previous post ), I went for a walk around with the 70-300 -- a rare occasion given the spring monsoon we've had.
I used mine this afternoon to snap a few. D700 1/500 f/5.3 at 200mm, ISO 1600, shot in RAW. No post processing or sharpening other than standard output sharpening for export to JPG in LR3:
