I've been thinking of getting the 70-300mm for a long time as I don't have a telephoto lens for FX and own both FX/DX bodies. The 105mm f/2,8 is the longest I have after my 16-85mm for DX so 120mm or 155mm is as much reach as I can go. However, with the launch of the V1 I'm now considering getting one of those instead. The whole camera and 30-110mm lens is lighter and smaller and much more discreet. The sample images I've seen are excellent and I'd figure it will give me a small cam for carry with me every day use too with the 10mm pancake lens on it plus a discreet 70-300mm telephoto in the bag
I am just a hobbyist but here is my submittal. My kids show horses and most of my shots are inside and the D80 just does not do the lens justices in low light. Here is one from a rare moment outside. (First post so I hope I don't screw it up)
Thx Tom, if you're shootin' DX I'd say it's pretty close to the Nikon offering. More low light hunting
and pincushion to deal with at the long end. Where I thought that the Nikon was clearly superior was
on FX. The Tamron softened in the corners and the copy I tried couldn't match the Nikon @200-300mm.
I just picked up another LNIB VR (friends beg me to sell mine all the time) for $330. It's a no brainer for that
price, even at the "normal" $350-360 on our B&S. If a guy was shootin' crop and could get the VC for sub $300
he'd probably be pretty happy. It would help if he thought the 28-75 was as good as the 'beast' we know better.
