Its MTF looks better than that of the Leica-M 24/1.4 (I know it's a rangefinder lens) as well as the Canon 24/1.4 II.

This is potentially one fastastic lens. Just need to wait for images to be posted.

Unfortunately it's a G lens which means no aperture ring => problem adapting to Canon easily.

Yeah, pretty sad that Nikon engineers didn't address this point when designing it.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

Remember that you can't compare MTFs between manufacturers...everyone does it differently.

Hmm, wonder how it'll do on m43 ;-)

haha i want to punch you in the mouth.

This lens will be sooooooo good i'm sure, but it does nothing for me. I was and still am hoping for a 28 or 35mm. I'm sure they'll make a 35, and no 28.

Oh and i wish it had an aperture ring, and AF-D.....

So is NIKON now considered an "alternative gear and lens" company?

Canon must be dominating the market! :P

I know we can't compare MTF cross-manufacturer, but if we do anyway . . . this lens appears to be a clear notch up from the Canon 24L II. I feel a head-to-head test coming on.

Is hubsand (Mark) selling stock in his EOS-NikonG adapter company yet?

EDIT: Ah, there you are

So?

I switched to Nikon primarily for the high ISO capable SLR's and have yet to be dissapointed. Plus better color, better everything....compared to Canon. Now, with the 24mm f1.4 (hopefully first of many larger aperture primes to be released), I am even happier that I did.

The 24mm f1.4 is one on my list for sure. I almost paid $3000 for the 28mm f1.4 but am I glad I held back. If Nikon's recent track record is anything to go by, chances are the Nikon 24mm f1.4 will run circles around the Canon 24L.

It's not all sweetness and light: the 16-35m/2.8 VR looks like a mildly tweaked 17-35mm: nice, but it won't set the world on fire. It would be a bonus if it encouraged Canon to give full frame shooters more IS options.

But that new prime looks tasty . . . very impressive MTF data for f1.4. Whether if offers anything more (optically) than the 24L II remains to be seen.

Funny you should ask about selling out of the adaptor business . . .

Hey, this is the prime that Sony is supposed to release as a Zeiss ZA! Come on already or else I will be tempted to switch to Nikon. They do have some very nice glass these days. Hopefully, the competition will make things better for all of us though I'm not happy with what seems to be a dramatic increase in the price of great glass. You have to admit that it really works to Nikon's favor that their G lenses lack mechanical aperture rings. What a pain to deal with adapting.

I think the comparison to make is the Nikon 24/1.4 Vs the Canon 24 TSE 3.5L II. The TSE has less CA than the 24L II. And the Nikon and TSE are the same list price.

That doesn't seem like a very relevant comparison since one has tilt-shift and is almost 3(!) stops slower.

I'm not usually super into lens comparisons, but I'd love to see a 24/1.4 shootout between Canon, Nikon, and Leica. I guess for Nikon, it should be with both a D3x and a D3s. It'd have to be done by someone with a lot of money obviously

Looking at its MTF relative to the 14-24G stopped down its resolution is no where close to the performance of the zoom at 24.
Wish they would dust off their legendary 28/1.4 old design, slap-on some nano-crystals and an aperture ring for us poor Canon folks! I much prefer 28/1.4 over 24/1.4.

It can. With an adapter.
