So my cheap Chinese made release cable took a crap on me up in the mountains the other week. I have decided instead of buying one of these every 6 months it would be beneficial to me to purchase a better quality one.

Right now I am looking at the MC-30 & MC-36. While the program-ability of the MC-36 seems neat I don't know if it is worth the extra $50. Have any of you had any experience with both of them and which one do you prefer? I do shoot quite a few long exposures but will my timing being a second of so off make that much of a difference when you are looking at anything over 1 minute of exposure?

And therein lies the $50 question. For long exposures I usually just use my wrist watch and lock on the MC-30. For many the only advantage of the MC-36 is the intervalometer... for those who need that capability.

doesn't the D700 have a built in intervalometer/timer?

Just get a MC30 and use that, or your watch.

Perhaps an MC-20?

I like the MC-30, but buy 2 of 'em just in case! (I've killed one, and have one lost half the time)
