I wanted to share my excitement with you guys...
I just placed an order for my first monolight, an Elinchrom D-Lite4. It should arrive in a couple of days.

I was looking for an affordable yet reliable studio flash, and since I travel pretty often between US and EU, it seemed the most logical choice... it is the only budget priced monolight that I saw, that accepts 110V-240V.

I can't wait, I'll keep you posted!

Not to rain on your parade but an updated version of the D-Lite 4 has just been announced/released:

http://www.amazon.com/Elinchrom-D-Lite-EL-20484-Strobe/dp/B0035WTD7Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1265669425&sr=8-1

Some info from the Flash Centre in the UK:

http://www.theflashcentre.com/elinchrom-d-lite-4-it-two-head-kit-i5065.html

The new version has an improved light stand mount, intelligent fan control, and built-in Skyport triggering. It might be worth cancelling or returning the light you're getting and waiting a bit for the updated D-Lite 4.

Oh, crap!

I didn't know about that... well, I guess I'll play with them for a few days, then I'll return them and place an order on the new ones. They're just 25$ more.

Any ideas on the release date?

Are you able to return them in then? If you can then do it now

Well, I have 2 weeks to return them... I'll see if they become available by then, I have already but a pre-order on Amazon.
I can live with a fan that it's not "intelligent", but the built-in Skyport is a big big plus.

Have you checked the BXRi 500/500 to go kit? You can get it for 1399 with soft boxes and stands includes the built in Skyport.

I am almost amazed that you guy's can buy stuff and return it after a while, just like that, even after trying !?
I would buy and try a lot my guess :-)

Wonder tough, what do they do with the returned gear ?

Yeah, I was amazed too when I moved to the US.
I think most of the stores sell the returned items as "open box", with around 5% of discount... the "not so honest" retailers, may sell it again as "new".

But it's all a marketing thing... if you know that you can buy something and then return it if you don't like it, you are very likely to buy more.

My new D-Lites are supposed to be at the store ready for pick up tomorrow.
Can't wait to try em out, kinda curious what the built in skyports are capable of, and if they can work with the standard transmitter.
