Funny, Thought I would find triangular bokeh objectionable but it's actually not too bad!

Your lens looks extremely good wide open, I guess its hard to tell with web-sized samples but it looks like it might be better than my CY version!

The flare control from the HFT coatings looks outstanding. Flare control was one of the things that impressed me most about the CY when I got it - it has a very scratched front element with lots of cleaning marks and the flare performance is barely effected!

One of these days I will have to post a picture of the front element.

This lens was a shoe-in for my travel kit for china but now that I have the CV 40/2 i'm not so sure... maybe I will bring both and only take the 35/1.4 out at night when I need it

The flare control is excellent so far.
Sharpness at f/1.4 is great and vignetting is quite low.
The 35L has AF. The Zeiss has the rest.

I was just about to say the same thing before I noticed your post.

No it is pretty much dusk and dawn all day... Grey and a lot of rain.

As for candles, we always eat breakfast with candles. It is cosy and and a nice way to start the day.

Congrats on aquiring this fine lens and finding a way to use a cheapo adapter (although I'd be inclined to paint the rear of the adapter black).

Comparing to the 35L, you reached the same conclusion as me: better sharpness, less vignetting, excedllent flare control, nice bokeh, and colors.

The 35L is probably the more convenient lens but due to the massive price difference the choice was easy for me.

Anden, cool lens. I really like some of these older and rare distinctive lenses. Great find, enjoy! Oh, and let's see some more shots

Here is a snapshot from the other night. Had some friends over.
It works great as a social lens.

If 35L and Contax 35 f:1.4 were "suspiciously similar" (copyright@Brainiac), then it seems, based on early pics, that the ZE35 f:2.0 is "suspiciously different" from its Contax forefather. I will know more when I eventually get mine

HFT = Rebranded Zeiss T* coating

The 35L:s I have owned have had good af even at f/1.4 but I do not shoot events like weddings so my needs might be other than Mr B's.

The 3 aperture blades are different from the 8 in the Contax. I have not used the Contax so I can not comment on it.

Regarding AF performance of Canon 35/1.4, I was quite happy with how accurately my copy focused at f/1.4 on my camera at the time (5D Classic). Accurate and consistent.

I've owned and/or used all Canon's f/1.2 and f/1.4 primes from 24 to 85 mm and the one bright prime I recall as being the snappiest and most accurately focusing is the 35/1.4 L.
