Evening Folks

As with any community the way we communicate will evolve and local phrases and lingo start to appear.
Often this new dialect can confuse others from different areas.
Given the intelligence and hardcore nerdness of the FM wedding forum their language may be hard for the laymen to decipher.
To help others understand please contribute one word or phrase with their meaning that you have read on these boards.

Druncle – An inebriated wedding quest related to the bride or groom who can either be a pest or a source of comedy..
Not to be confused with an "Uncle Bob".

<Disclaimer> Although I have never seen the the word “Druncle” on this forum I read it in a publication from the North East of England and immediately thought of a few wedding guests I had previously encountered.

a while back I had a thread where everyone added in a few... so I think this one is up to date... although people still confuse the thrifty and the nifty fifties...

Dude - I thought the 50 f/1.8 was the nifty fifty or plastic fantastic. Can you add those?

I am embarrassed to say I have to look up a lot of words used on this forum

FTW used to have me puzzled.

I think it was Pat Furey who coined FTMFW.

FTMFW - (F)or (T)he (M)other (F)ornicating (W)in

the EF 50mm F/1.4 is the "Nifty Fifty" as it works good and is inexpensive.

the EF 50mm F/1.8 II is the "Thrifty Fifty" as it also works good and is *really* inexepensive

IMHO I have no idea WTF this thread is good for.

on the road cycling forum I am frequently on, HTFU is common . (Harden the f*ck up), a retort to whiners, and I guess a variation on STFU.

The Dark Side = Nikon

Not because their lenses are black but because everyone knows Darth Vader and his mates were the coolest in Star Wars.

Is it bad if I've seen that movie more than Star Wars?

No 17-55 2.8 IS? I'm sure a dust designation will be in there but the little guy is a sharp performer also.

Well sorry guys, but in my former life as a motorcyclist (polite title), FTW meant something entirely different than For The Win... It was F..k The World!!!! I wondered why all you people had such bad attitudes...

Oh, and Deb, I had to look up YMMV and IIRC too.

Wow... 36 hours and no retorts from Clay? Someone should check on him.

pwnd... had to figure that one out.
pwnd: An internet chat language variety/version of the word "owned", used in the sence of beating/defeating/outclassing someone. Usually used in games such as Counter-strike or on messageboards when a user posts arguments or insults that can't possibly be counter-argued.

Arguably considered so-called "l33t-speak"
"I pwnd you that round" "You just got pwnd dude" "I am going to pwn you like I did your mother last night"
