I find many of your cropping/compositional choices quite unusual. Almost like somebody bumped you just before the shot.
21 shots - that's quite a lot. If you want a critique, choose a few of your fav's and post them. That will usually get you better feedback.

Hi Ben, I think you did a good job of capturing the carefree nature of a day out on the water.

I find your choice of crops in a few to be a bit unfortunate. Specifically, #1, #3 and #4 have heads chopped off, and I think those images would have been better if they were not cropped in such a way.

#8 doesn't do much for me.

There are some blown-out skies, but I suspect you did that deliberately. The images are a bit small to know for sure, but the focus looks spot-on. And I think the expressions and mood captured are excellent. Nice job!

A lot of these look like they could be for a Ralph Lauren ad. Nice captures.

You crazy rule breaker!

I like them...even the funky crops. It makes them feel less posed to me.

Thanks for sharing!

Haha. hk you just made me laugh.

Thanks for the feed back everyone. I agree about SOME of the headchopping. Especially number one.

Thanks for the ralph lauren comment. haha.

As for the blown out skies, I actually just bought a polarizer because I think this shoot would have been stronger with some deep bue skies.

Cool video too. Was the video shot with your dslr or did you have a dedicated video camera for that?

Thanks,

Brian

Like the DOF in your shots, no EXIF any particular lens or settings for these shots ?

BK: Thanks. The video was shot on my 5d II

SJMD: I used two 5d II's for this shoot. one with an 85mm 1.2l II and the other with 35mm 1.4l . I usually shoot around f2.

I like to look at photos that make me say, "hey, this person thinks a little differently." These are very nicely done with a refreshing viewpoint. I'll look at 21 of those for every single boring photo I see any day. Thanks for posting and I'll be looking for more from you, Ben. I like them quite a bit.

And forget the polarizer for shots like these. That stark sky really does your models well.
