Just thought I"d start a thread to see when USAers start getting notices of their 70-200mm VRII getting shipped. Mine is on order since August 3 from Calumet.

Not shipped yet. Ordered mine from J&R and was #40-something out of the 200 they had coming, so I should be one of the first to get it.

Too bad all my major fall shooing is over, sure could have used it (although my 80-200D really is pretty darn good)

Based on what's happening in the currency markets and general supply and demand...where do you guys see the price of the VR2 in say 6 months?

In other words, if I felt like indulging my nacent NAS, would I be rewarded with a $300 price drop in January?

I'd be curious to hear from VR1 early adopters what the price fluctuations were within the first year of ownership.

Thanks in advance.

The notice on my Amazon order just changed today from "we will let you know, etc" to:

"We are preparing these items for shipment and this portion of your order cannot be canceled or changed."

It's funny 17th St Photo is directly behind Adorama on 17th st. and is so much smaller then them, but they have this lens in stock right now. Most of their business is online, but they have a nice little store on the 3rd floor. If I didn't buy through one of the places on Amazon last night I'd walk over there right now, but sales tax is a b@#ch

Cheers,
Jeff

Prices may drop a bit, but keep in mind that Nikon glass has been going up - even on older lenses. Plus, you do have the use of the lens between now and any price drop. That's actually the reason I purchased my D3x when I did. I could have waited six months and got it for a few hundred less, but I wouldn't have had the use of that amazing camera.

My advice- if you're gonna get it, do it sooner rather than later. You don't want to wish you had it...

A $300 price drop would be below dealer cost. I don't see any price drop on a lens like this coming for a long time.

Well, I couldn't resist and since I'm writing it off anyway, I cancelled my amazon order walked right into 17th St. and walked out with a new one. I know they have one more and they are open till 6. I'd rather post it here then go through the PM thing. This lens is really awesome. Unfortunately it's so crappy out so I can't do any thing except shoot my dog and the salt shaker, but it's awesome!

The negative, the hood sucks. Much flimsier and you can't stand the lens up with the hood on.

They also had 1 or 2 D3S's in there.

Roberts Imaging had them in stock as of this morning. They had some extras but I am sure they won't last.

Gerry thanks for the test shots... I'm assuming you're pretty happy with the wide open performance?
