When I traveled across the country to shoot an amazing wedding, only to find out that I forgot my wallet AND the restaurant all the local FMers were going to meet at was closed down...

Wow, what's the chances that there was someone at the wedding named "Pugh"? That makes this a far more interesting story than if the lens rolled down the isle and hit one of those thingys put in churchs to allow people to sit. What are they called? Oh yeah, pews.

Have you heard of the religious skunk who went to church every Sunday and sat in his own pew?

Almost took a serious fall at a recent wedding. The church was rather small so I put my light stand between pews 3-4, respectfully took my shoes off to stand in pew 4 to do all the formals. Nice slippery dress socks combined with slippery cover on the padded pew nearly resulted in a bad fall. I caught myself using the light stand. My head would certainly have dented the heavy end of the pew.

While everybody was staring at me, I said: "If I fall and there are broken bones or lots of blood, please don't laugh. Otherwise, laugh all you want." Everybody started laughing and things really loosened up. I shot all the formals with one hand on the camera and the other on the lightstand.

I was forced to keep shooting because of the great smiles and laughter that followed.

My two goofs this year were dropping a lens cap during the opening floor, it fell to the nice marble floor for everyone to hear, I kept my head down and played dumb

The second, I arrived at the brides house and noticed no one was there, no cars in the driveway, so I called the bride thinking she may still be at the salon, there was no answer, so I left a message, she called back a couple of minutes later and said she didn't think I was at the right house because they were all there, well of course I paniced. Come to find out I was literally 5 houses down from where she was getting ready - at her mom's house - not the couple's house - which is where I was sending the wedding package to according to my info sheet. I had entered the wrong addy into my GPS, that God it was just down the road!

GPS not getting you to where you should be is a scary damn feeling when you are running just on time.

I broke my foot in three places between the ceremony and cocktail hour. I was walking behind the B&G on our way to the gazebo for some formal shots when I stepped on a twig on the sidewalk and it just sent me, camera, battery pack etc., flying. You can bet the camera was the most protected....didn't get damaged at all (just me). Finished the wedding formals and reception though (6 hours later), with ice packs, a few gin and tonics and one very understanding bride and groom. Had a cast for 8 weeks....what a pain. Driving foot no less....

Not so much an ooops but .....a crazy moment.

setting the scene:
Country: Taiwan.
High speed train ride down to Taichung (1/2 down island) - always fun.

meet grooms family - very nice. Have dinner, discuss wedding tomorrow, have a few beers, etc.
Move forward to about 11pm-ish.
Get to hotel and drive into garage. get out - grab gear and roll upstairs to find:



that i am staying in a love motel and my wife is 1/2 around the world.

Room includes: multiple position 'activity' chair, fully controled envirment from remote by bed and whirlpool bath tub.

......mmmmmm......

had to get shut-eye for a 5:00 am wake up call.

I did not test the chair but the remote works.

The Bed .... take your simons or any other standard bed in the US,
-pull the mattress off and throw away.
Place sheets on w/ very thin comforter over box springs....and bingo - you are good to go.

After that I took my pants selection very seriously and got some good durable ones.

Oh and they weren't laughing because I was exposing myself or anything (at least that I can remember). So yeah... I wasn't going Commando.

Hey, I've done that too! Isn't that the WORST?

I think designers don't account for their wearers to crouch down low as much as we do.

From then on I always bring an extra pair of pants, and wear black underwear. I don't trust H&M pants anymore. Uniqlo in NYC is my fave clothing store, and has great fitting, durable, stretch denim blacks that I now use exclusively at weddings. Would like to hear what others brands of pants they like.
