(1,2) is my preference. Lovely colors!
(2,1) is also nice
(2,2) if great ... except for the crop. Why cut such a pretty head?
(1,2) is the one that works the least for me

In any case the girls have talent :-)

phdb,
Your numbering system makes no sense. You say (1,2) is my preference then you say (1,2) works the least for you. I don't understand.

Matt...

1,2 = row 1, image 2

2,2 = row 2, image 2

...to the best of my understanding.

I suspect phdb meant to write (1,1) (first row / left) as the last comment i.e., "... works least for me" and (1,2) is a simply a typo. Deductive reasoning: Four photos, four comments but (1,1) isn't mentioned

As for the photos, not knowing the kids I think the ones in the bottom row have better expressions, but I'm sure their mom will love them all. As far as technique? I'm not a fan of flare for flare's sake. I conveys a bright, warm, sunny day but here I find it overdone to the point of distraction from more important part of the message: the faces. Exposure on the faces is different on every shot and look underexposed except for the lower right, which is closest to normal. I'd suggest cropping wider in the camera so you don't inadvertently chop off hands and arms arbitrarily whilst focused on the faces.
