Boy, great job with your MKIII already. Looks like it agrees with you
Nice BIF, congrats, those birds are fast!
Here is a link to the extensive pdf. file written by Canon for MKIII users, particularly helpful for sport and BIF shooting. Custom function recommendations:
[it's very helpful and informative for full use of the specialized functions]
I printed out what I needed, CF III and IV, [the first link being the most informative]

These look very nice Jim... lovely BG's and I like your compositions too.
IF looks pretty good also, and your IF keeper rate will go way up as you practice and learn to really take advantage of the M3's AF system.
Very nice work.
Kirk

Thanks Kirk....love the focus speed and also seems to be much better/faster lock in low light conditions than my 5DII......
Probably not going to be able to crop to the extremes that the 5DII allows with its full frame sensor but agree about the increase in keeper rates....

Those are some sweet shots, quality and subject wise, Jim.
There's a ton of opinions on what the best settings to use are and I am guilty as the next hobbiest for not knowing or taking the time to learn them all. I generally use a single focus point on the Mark III for stationary birds and the legenday ring-0-fire for BIFs when the background is not too busy to steal focus. Otherwise, I pray, spray and hope for the best
Ken

Thanks Ken, I appreciate the comments & tips..... ....got the feeling I'm going to be praying & spraying for quite a while.....

Jim, hang on to the first link I gave you above. It will answer all [and I mean ALL, lol] your questions about CF III and IV for autofocus. It's a hard pdf. file to find and you may want it some day.

Thanks Mohammed.... ...well things sure happen fast sometimes....I've been very busy today selling & buying equip.... I just sold my '1DIII' to a fellow forum member that had been looking for a good deal in excellent condition....and....then made a deal with another member for a trade-in of my '5DII' on a very nice '600 IS 4.0'!!!!....
The only problem now is I'm without a camera....
That new '1DIV' is going to be mighty tempting...... ....
