thanks Jim....it was fun to focus on the blade of grass, with more grass behind it and some flowers or another, set it to 1.2 and see what the background turned into

Very interesting exercise MIke - I like what you have tried here. I think the comp that grabs me the most is the first one. I like the way the in focus blade has almost a pin stripe look to it and the overlay of that on the nice color patterns in the background makes a very pleasing contrast.
