So what makes the ant mimic not an ant? Very nice shots.

LOvely captures- esp #2

Matt- it's got a proboscis under it's head (ie it's a plant bug of some type).

Thanks guys, appreciate your looking.

@Matt - ant mimicry is either protective or aggressive. Not sure on this species, but it's either for eating or to avoid being eaten.

Just curious, what set-up did you use? Lens/

Nikon D300, Nikkor 105mm f2.8 AF lens w/36mm tube, Nikon R1C1 twin flash. All handheld and probably shot at F11, 1/250, ISO 250-ish.

Do you think a 135 with tubes would work for macro?

I saw you had asked this question in another thread, Pat so I will second the advice given over there: get yourself a set of tubes--the Kenko AF set is the best bang for the buck--and try them with your 50mm lens. They will work with the 135, after a fashion, but the 50 will be your best bet. They can also be used with a dedicated macro if you decide to go that route.
