The BlackRapid RS-5 strap has arrived

I am exceptionally pleased with it. The quality is top notch. Perfect and just what I need.

Thanks be to you Will (post#12 above) I love it to bits too. It is so cool

I feel as if I'm giving feedback on eBay!

this has been my concern too. when I have my 70-200 f2.8 is on my camera, sometimes I swing it up and down by the body.

There's a pic of a 1 series on here where the lens is still attached to the mount and the entire magnesium body pulled apart!

That 28-300 is the heaviest small lens around, but it is not a problem. 6.5lb. must be a 300/2.8 of some sort.

OK, so here is wher the 6.5lb comes from:
I just weighed the camera and lens together on two different bathroom scales a 6.5 each. The kitchen scales gives 6.0lb

My original post was not supposed to be taken as a difinitive definition of the lens weight, rather that it was a very heavy 'lump' being attached to the camera.

Thanks to Will in post #12 above I have bought a BlackRapid RS-5 strap which addresses all my concerns and then some! The strap, apart from solving the 'slipping off the shoulder' syndrome and easing the stresses on the lens:camera joint, it also has provided easy reach pouches for phone (in my case a GPS tracker), spare battery, cards etc etc.

On the BlackRapid Page for the RS-5 among other photos, there is a picture of the 5d2 with the 28~300 lens on it:

Trust me, it takes alot to break the mount of a camera. In the worst case, the fins holding the lens in will snap off as they are designed to in an effort to minimize damage.
A lens-side mounting ring is held down by a few screws and is cheap to replace, the camera mount isn't.

oh yeah, the camera in the above pic is a 1D mark II with some sort of 400/500/600mm L prime... attached?

you could include the images of the 600L that went for a swim in some murky looking water.
I think it was owned by one of the rental Co.s . wonder if the renter got his deposit back?

That looks more like an old 500/4.5 or something like that. It looks like a bigger lens than the 400/5.6

Either way, that picture kinda makes me sick to my stomach.

yeah your probably right, it has the drop in filter so its not a 400/5.6 any way

Guess I was a bit off
Dangerous thing to be swinging around anyway. I wonder what kind of impact it takes...
