The Coorong is a very special place in South Australia. It is a narrow lagoon 140kms long, separated from the Southern Ocean by unbroken sand dunes. It is home to many species of birds and a place of great spiritual significance to the traditional owners, the Ngarrindjeri people.

It is now threatened by receding waters due to the extended drought. The water has become several times more salty than the ocean.

1. The water where the canoe is is only about 4 inches deep.

2. Here you can see how the water has receded.

3. On the other side on the dunes is a 200km beach and the Southern Ocean.

Thanks Brandon. It's a wonderful, unspoilt beach 200kms long!

Thanks for the story. Its always interesting to hear about the region.

1 for me the boat is too centred. There are not many features so it needs drama. I think using pano, shifting left to get the boat 1/3 left and top with the rock less centred woudl make it much stronger.

2 similarly i find it too static because of the centreing of the horizon and lack of details. Cropping lots off bottom wouldl improve for me.

3 is nice composition. Nicest picture for me.

Thanks for sharing. Scott

Thanks for your most constructive and helpful criticism, Scott.

It's a challenging but beautiful area to photograph, and I hope to get there again soon to try my hand.
