Does anyone know whether there is a fix for compatability between the EOS 7d and the SUNPak pf30x flash unit.

I bought it not long ago for my 40d, but now I have a 7d, it is saying that it is not connected or not compatible....any fix for this or is it a no go....

Any info much appreciated.

contact sunpak
Other 3rd party flashes have had problems with canon bodies since the 5d2 (maybe the 50D) so canon must have changed something.
If you search out a while back you will find a few threads re the 5d2 and the sunpak RD2000 as 1 example

Sunpak not the easiest to find contact details for, think I might have just emailed their JP sales dept!

The shoe for the EOS 7d looks like the same configuration as the 40d so could it be a case that a future firmware update may enable support?

yeah I think canon may have changed something in the comms. I know a few here had their RD2000's updated when they reported problems with the 5D2

Anyone know if there are any other flashes that will work with the 7D wireless?

my 430exii works good but would like some cheap companions to it.

I don't have a sunpak but I do have a Sigma EF-500DG Super that I had to send because of compatibilities with my 50D.
I'm not sure if it will work with the 7D wireless. Maybe it will.
I'm waiting my Flash to return so that I can test it using the Sigma as a master and my 430 EXII as a slave. If it works, chances are that the 7D wireless will trigger it also...

I have a QF30x. (Same thing, only rebranded for Quantaray)

Those flashes are really only supposed to be compatible with the Rebel and xxD series. The Q/PF30X is meant to be a budget external flash, aimed at APS-C users.

I do know that they have QC issues. Mine has problems firing the AF assist (not that I need it, but when i do, I'd like to have it). So, it not working on a 7D comes as no surprise at all.
