Hi Folks,

This is a photo I took in China a few months ago. The rain, the cones, the washed out background, the almost washed out car and the dude carry his back and drinking water makes me think of guy on a journey to find his destiny on the road of life. Let me know what you think.

Cheers

Your first post!
Let me be the first to welcome you.

I like the story you have conjured up about him. I read the same thing into it. It's almost a spiritual thing as he walks toward the light and unknown.

Welcome.
This image has many technical issues but the only one that matters to me is the bright upper left corner. The rest of the technical issues are, to my eye, irrelevant. The image is powerful, the bright, blown out areas add to the intensity and fit with the notion of not really being able to see what's ahead for any of us. Adds to the surreal quality.

Tim and Scott,

Thanks for the warm welcome. I am definitely here to learn so I appreciate all the feedback.

Scott, can you elaborate more on some of the other technical issues that you see? I will definitely fix the top left corner.. Anything else I can do to make the photo better?

Cheers

I like it - a lot.
At first glance, it reminded me of penguins walking alongside him.
Very nice shot.

Rouzbeh,

I'll clarify what I mean. But again, your image works beautifully and effectively, and, other than that corner, I wouldnt modify it. The image illustrates why rules/guidelines are meant to be broken.

So, on the dull, technical (always less important than artistic) level:
Highlights quickly blow out (become pure white), losing any detail. For example, no detail in the sky, pure white between the trees on the right (maybe a pond?), little detail in much of the road where there might be texture, reflections.
Darks quickly become black, again losing detail in the shadows. Some tree trunks appear pure black. Some traffic cones appear pure black.
