I've watched a few videos of her explaining her take on marketing and connecting with the client. She IS very good at that. I think she did and does a great job, refreshingly true approach to the processing.

This is a photography forum, and a wedding photography subforum. Comments about wedding photography are exactly what this forum is about; comments about people's appearance -- other than specifically about how a photographic technique affects their appearance -- are off topic and not acceptable.

Thank you, and I wish people would post this before telling me to simply leave lol.

I understand my mistake and I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to anyone I may have offended, including the bride.

However, I still stand by my statement regarding questioning another photographer's skill who has clearly proven his/her self. All I see is flat out hating for someone is quite successful at his/her job.

Some people are not only good image-ers, but genius marketers. I know this is off-wedding topic, but a great example of that is Chase Jarvis, a lifestyle photographer who shoots major clients all over the world.

His photos are good - not mind numbingly amazing - but he has tapped into the twitter/facebook/new media and markets himself extremely well. He sells his brand hardcore.

This is the kind of thread that starts off innocently enough, then goes sideways in a hurry. I've already cleaned up a couple of comments and will be checking back to clean up more I'm sure. When I read the OP, I had the over/under at 4 posts before it turned into Jasmine Starr bash/defend/bash/defend. It actually went 6 before being derailed by the comment about the bride, which was a bit backhanded, especially since she is a family member of the OP. Even so, there is no cause to lash out and tell him to "leave".

To the blog post: I was very impressed with the opening monologue and can totally see brides, MOBs, Planners, even photographers (me) being totally swept up in the emotion created by the words written here even before we get to the photos. I thought the photos were very good; much the same quality we see here on a consistent basis. My only criticism on the images I saw in the blog is that I personally was a bit turned off by the alleyway shots. I like a good juxtaposition as much as the next guy, but this dank setting seemed a bit over the top for such an elegant couple. I can bet dimes to a dollar that she would never have volunteered to put her bouquet on the ground in that ally before she held them to walk down the aisle.

Lew, sorry you missed it; looks and sounds like a great time was had by all. And yes, you would have made an excellent “Bob”.

Holy crap - seeing her work just gave me an amazing marketing idea. Thank you for sharing.

The shots, by the way, are very clean, strong, nice. Good stuff, IMO.

Lew,

The only reason you would have deserved a kick was if you had done it "as a gift" (I'm reading it as "free"), and THEN found out that she was able to pay J* to shoot it.

I know..

when one of those 'big name' photographers takes a mediocre photo, it's like
wow, cool, sweet, hand jobs all around..

.. some photographers here work triple as hard, and don't get half of the .
recognition that they truly deserve.

Very clean set. Her white balance is just about perfect.

Whoa...this topic kind of got away.

I have always been a HUGE fan of Jasmine - not necessarily for her images alone - but the way she markets herself and her business. The images themselves are strong...there are more than a few members here who's work would compare favourably...but the emotion in the words she uses as a foreword to the photos is what really hooks the viewer - even before looking at a single image.

Every blog post results in 30+ comments from adoring fans. How many of us would love that kind of attention? Regardless of how you feel about the photographer or her work...I think there's a valuable lesson to be learned.

Believe it or not, the Bride (my wife's cousin) is also an accomplished photographer. You can see her work by googling "gina meola photography". I don't want to post a link here...but I will say she is extremely talented too!

..Lew..

State your defense of the photographer and leave the other stuff behind. Time to move on.

She's got some great clean work. Lots of fun. Definitely not necessarily better than some of the talent here.

Some of it is run-of-the-mill that even I could have done. But the first two shots of the hose and heels? I wouldn't have thought of those in a gazillion years. Even if I did manage to think of it, I couldn't have done it anywhere near as well.

She also recommends an outsourcing comopany for PP.
If I blog about how I'm in my pijamas and brushing my teeth, I would
probably lose my business, but I guess jasmine Star can do it and get
30 comments.

Wow,

Given the tone of the OP i expected to click the link and see some terrible images from some over payed photog.

Although I was not captured by any of them, they were all quite nice and she really got the bride into it.

To say the least I was quite confused.
